Slim calves

I've been walking 3-7 miles about 4-5 times a week for 1 1/2 months. I've been getting slimmer at the waist but my calves don't seem to be slimmer. My pants are fitting tighter around my calves and looser around the waist. What kind of exercise can I do to get slimmer calves? I want to be able to wear knee high boots, but I can't find a pair to fit around my chunky calves. Any advice?

Keep exercising, your calves will catch up with the weight loss!
Mine have & I didn't notice until I put a pair of knee high boots on that used to fit quite snugly & now they have a bit of movement!

Keep at it, it WILL happen

I wish I knew how to solve this problem as well. :\ I've always had super large calves and even when I was at my lowest weight my calves didn't shrink with the rest of my body.

It depends on your level of body fat. You can't spot-reduce the fat from your calves. So just keep working on your diet, and at some point the fat from your calves will reduce.

Genetically, we all have different muscle-potential for our calves. Some people have very muscular calves without even trying. Most men I know find muscular calves to be sexy.

Running and cycling will help lengthen the muscles in your calves, but you probably stand more to gain by continuing to drop body fat (generalization. I don't know your BF percentage).
  • Thanks for the advice. I will continue with the exercising. Maybe my calves will be smaller next winter so I can wear knee high boots :) Aslo, glad to hear I'm not the only with this issue.
  • You might try yoga, which involves stretching the calves quite a bit. I find it also builds those little muscles in the lower legs which gives the legs a nice shape.

I just know that ever since I started yoga I have been able to wear boots.

I am sooo with you - I have calves that can kick start planes!! They are getting smaller - and like you I hope that at some stage I can wear knee high boots - but they are never going to be small....
