I started my transformation on the 21st June 2011 at 323.4 lbs

I posted some pics back in November when I reached my first goal of 252lbs ( 71lbs lost in 5 months )

Currently I am 246lbs - so total loss in 6 months is 77.4 lbs and today was my 175th day on MFP

My current goal is to get down to 8-10% bodyfat

When I started I kept reading things with most of the experts saying " you cannot build muscle on a calorie deficit " so I set out to prove this theory wrong !!

I did a full body workout 3 days a week, with heavy weights, 6-8 reps, 3 sets, the only equipment I have used is a weight bench and a set of bowflex dumbbells, and made sure I had around 240 grams of protein a day.

Sept 2011 - 270lbs

great job! Thanks for sharing...hope others will be inspired by your success!
  • Thank you everyone for your kind words.
  • I'm very interested in your story. I'm attempting to "prove 'em wrong" too. I have some questions...

What were your calorie goals throughout the process? Were you aiming for 2 pounds per week loss, or something else?

Do you have before and after bicep/chest measurements? They sure look bigger, but I'm a numbers guy.

How heavy do your bowflex dumbbells go? 150?

Do you have any metrics on strength gain? What were your starting numbers for things like curls and bench press compared to your current numbers?

Do you do any cardio, or is it just weights?

    Keep up the good work!

Holy Smokes....look at those muscles. you look amazing!
  • To start with I had my calories set at 1800 with a goal of 2lbs per week loss, some weeks I lost more and some weeks less. As I started to build muscle and my metabolism speeded up I increased my calories, currently they are set at 3200 and I am still loosing around 1.5lbs a week.

    I am 6' 4" tall
Chest was 54 inches, now 46 inches
Waist was 48 inches, now 37 inches
Not sure what my biceps were........ But there are defiantly bigger now !!

    The bowflex are the 1090's

For biceps I only do concerntration curls, started with 22lbs and now do 33lbs
For chest I only do dumbbell fly's ( incline / flat / decline ) started with 22lbs and now with 38.5lbs

When I started I did 15 mins of elliptical trainer after each 1 hour full body workout, now I only do 10 mins after each 1 hour full body workout.

You look great! But I have to say for 300 something you didn't look that big to me. Are you pretty tall?

I figured you must be tall, since you looked pretty good at 323. You really look good now! I didn't know about not gaining muscle or definition or whatever while in a calorie deficit. Good thing, 'cause lifting has worked great for me, too. Congratulations on the improved you!

    Yes I am tall - 6' 4"
  • that's a great transformation Agean42 especially at your age(no offence) I'm in a similar situation but I don't know what to do. Someone suggested I follow an online program & already read a review on FATCUDA.COM - do you think it's a good idea to follow one of these programs?

Age is just a Number !!!
Just follow the basics like I did and you will get great results, all you need is a bench, a set of dumbbells, lift heavy for 6-8 reps, do 3 sets, workout 3 times a week ( mon / wed / fri ) make sure your diet is clean, eat plenty of protein.
