I did fabulous my first 6 weeks and lost 12 pounds, but have hit a plateau now I have been stuck at 145 for 3 weeks. I am staying at 1200-1250 calories and working out 6 days doing cardio 45 mins/day and weight lifting 3 days/wk. I need to lose 10 more, but just cannot seem to make any progess. Can anyone who has hit their last 10 pounds give me some insight on what you did to overcome it?? I have a family wedding in 5 weeks and am determined to at least get 5 more off by then

Personally, I changed my workout routine and my diet a little bit (not much). When I started doing P90X the scale started moving again (in the right direction). You might try a different workout. I'm not sure, but 1200 calories seems awfully low, but there are others much more intelligent than me on the subject.

I walk around 7 miles per day when the weather is nice, and don't eat back my exercise calories... so I end up with a 700-900 calorie deficit and the weight drops off. I'm sure some will tell me this isn't healthy... but I am eating 1200-1300 per day, I'm not hungry & I am getting proper nutrition!

In my own personnel experience my plateaus have been caused by STRESS, not eating enough and my body adjusting to my workout schedule.

What I do is calorie zig-zag. What I mean is two days a week my calories are higher than the rest. It tricks the body a little and also give me a high calorie day on Saturdays. With calorie zig-zag you have to remember that in a 7 day cycle your calories must equal the appropriate amount for the week. IE my daily right now is 1448 with two days that are different. One day is 1738 and the other is 1593 but at the end of a 7 day cycle the total calories consumed would be as if every day is 1448. I know it can sound confusing but check out the below site because it does it for you.

The website I used to figure this out is: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

As for workouts, I own the P90X as do many MFP members and the one thing that is burned into your brain is to change up your workouts. Keep the body guessing. You can do cardio Monday, upper body on tuesday, lower body on Wednesday and so on. Our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for and we just need to learn to listen to them.

Also, have you taken your measurements? Just because the scale isn't moving doesn't mean your body isn't changing. Tape measures are better than scales.

I just broke a two week stall in my weight loss. One day I ate over calories, the next I ate under and I switched up my exercises. As well, I am doing a mild herbal cleanse ( I know not everyone agrees with this). This combination kick started it all and I am on the downward path again!

I listened to Banks on my current plateau, and its looking like its breaking. It involved me switching from trying to lose 2lbs a week to eating my BMR and my exercise calories. Like you I exercise almost every day, and usually pretty rigorously. If you're working out that much, 1200 calories a day just is not enough unless you eat your exercise cals, and judging from what I'm seeing in myself, even with the exercise cals it might not be enough (YMMV).
  • Thanks everyone for the great ideas. I'm going to incorporate a few of them and shake things up to see what happens. That is what I love about this site so much, it's so helpful to have support other people who can relate to the weight loss battle and to be able to exchange tips and ideas.

3lbs down since I started lifting the calories to my BMR, so I'll see if it maintains it. I'll give ya a shout in a week or so to let you know the end result.
