How bad is a piece of cake

I'm just curious and tempted. I have a big birthday cake sitting in the fridge. Vanilla with strawberries inside. Taste good, but I'm wondering how bad is this for me. I'm at the phase where I really want my abs to show. So far they are still hidden.

So my question is as follows:

* If I expand more than I consume will a piece of cake hurt my progress? If intake 2100 calories + 200 cal from cake but expand 2800 calories for the day, will this cake fat still go directly to my ab area? I know fat is unique in that it goes straight to fat storage, but since I'm burning a lot of calories, will that still happen?

* Is consuming a piece of cake in the morning or afternoon better than at night? I'm just thinking if you are active during the day, that cake fat gets used up before it gets deposited. On the other hand, if it is consumed at night, that storage fat that was used during the day gets replaced with the cake fat.

having a piece of cake isn't that bad... as long as it's not everyday. BUT you'd be hard pressed to find a yummy slice for 200 cals... especially if it's frosted

honestly, you seem really concerned about it so I'd say just skip it. Have some freh strawberries instead.

A piece of cake is not that bad - you're probably talking 400 calories (if it's a reasonably small portion). As long as you combat the "snack" with some exercise, you will be fine! Plus, I always find that if I don't eat what I crave - even if it is a little taste - I am going to eat all day long and try to replace what I really want to eat. Eat a small piece. You will feel better...and it will inspire you to work out harder today : )

LMAO In my family, we have cake in our fridge the entire month of October. We have 4 birthdays just in our immediate family during the month, all spaced out a week or so... I don't even want cake by the time my b-day rolls around (Oct 22), so I make myself a tollhouse pie. With 6 of us, everyone gets one peice, and then DH and I to have the extra piece the next day. No more leftovers...

Ummm for Hampton though, I've heard that eating it early in the day is better. As to calories, it really depends on the type of frosting. I make my own buttercream frosting that is over 200 calories alone for 1/4 cup. But my stepmom used to make a frosting that only had a couple of TBSP of butter and powdered sugar, so it wouldn't be nearly as high as mine (which has a cup of butter and a cup of crisco in it). I would budget 400-500 calories for a piece of cake, whether that means an extra hour of exercise or not... But then again, I loves me some cake. Not as good as toll house pie, but yummo!

I think you are over thinking this. If you have the room for it in your calories for the day than eat it without the guilt. If not you have a decision to make, either 1) Do not eat it, 2) Eat it but work out to make up for it, 3) Eat it, don't work out and deal with the consequences.

To be honest, as long as you don't have a really big piece and don't eat cake every day I don't see the harm, but if it is going to cause you a lot of guilt and stress it isn't worth it.

.... now I'm craving cake ....

I saw the cake photos on your profile. Wow great job. I love the camping and butt cakes

it's not going to kill you, have a small piece to kill the craving, workout like normal, watch your calories for the rest of the day.

I liked the line that was said earlier about just eat it and if you are able to get back on track you know for sure that YOU are in control of your diet and food is not in control of you.

who told you that dietary fat goes directly to fat storage? That's not true at all. It's processed the same way protein is, it goes through the liver and released into the blood as triglycerides. While fat is a less efficient energy source then carbohydrates, meaning a higher percentage of fat intake is stored as body fat, it's not a given that you eat a fatty food and it is immediately stored as fat. Keep your fat intake at around 20% or so and you should be fine. If you can work Cake into that 20%, heck you could have it once a week and be fine, assuming your other nutrition is generally good.

Ha! I didn't say that. physiologically it doesn't go there, but we all know that if you CAN avoid eating it, it's always a good idea not too. There's really nothing redeeming about cake. It has very little nutritional value. The only good time to eat it would be like right after a 10 mile run and you are feeling a little exhausted. Even then, there's better stuff.
