Hey, Has anyone given up caffeine before and has it affected your weight loss? When you gave up did you still drink green tea?

My uncle claims to have lost 15 lbs from giving up caffeine, but when i asked him to elaborate he added that he had been eating healthier and exercising a bit too... lol... so.... results are inconclusive on that one. It's possible that he just stopped drinking soda and calorie dense coffee drinks.

I'd like to see what other people say... I love my caffeine. :)

Not even a remote possibility for me. I LOVE my coffee far too much. If anything I'm thinking about upping my caffeine intake by trying a green tea extract suppliment...

I have to give up caffeine from time to time for some digestive issues, and no it does not ever affect my weight loss.

I gave up all caffeine for a few months in college, and it didn't affect my weight.

Recently, I gave up everything but green tea for a few weeks, and again, it didn't affect it. I was losing weight, but now that I'm back on my caffeinated beverages, I'm still losing at the same rate.

The only reason why my doctor let me keep the green tea is because it is less acidic than coffee and pop, but it still has the caffeine that keeps me from going into withdrawal symptoms. She said the acidic food and beverages may have been hard on my digestive tract, but now that I feel better, I'm back to eating whatever I want.

I drink about 6-12 cups of black coffee per day....No problems to report after a few years. I've shredded down and bulked up just fine. If anything, the extra jolt makes me move around a bit more, causing more of a caloric expenditure. ;]

I tried to give it up once. The terror I sensed from my family due to the Godzilla I turned into was more than enough to drive me back into the arms of my caffeine lover.

I heard that caffeine is actually good for weight loss... im not sure how though.
I honestly feel a bit full after drinking my coffee.. could be that.

But anyway, to answer your question.. I don't think it has any effect. :)

I gave up caffeine and saw no affect. Now, if I drink any I get sick and I almost feel high.
My father was advised by his cardiologist after a quadruple bypass to drink a cup of coffee every morning because it's good for the heart! He never drank it before.

I gave up all caffeine years ago due to a heart condition-but my coach advised me that caffeine also dehydrates. Decalf is the way to go all the way around.

Caffeine is one of the few ingredients in fat burners that have actually proven in the lab to be effective, so I wouldn't give it up for weight loss. Plus, coffee has bowel stimulating effects so that you don't get constipated from too much of other "diet" foods.

I find that when i drink a cup of coffee it can usually help suppress my appetite. It also helps to have a cup about an hour before my workout gives me a bit of an edge.

Yes but luckily, caffeine generally comes in beverage form. Coffee and tea are mostly water. Adding caffeine does not negate the fact that you're drinking water.

    (a) Caffeine (or, more accurately, lack of caffeine) headaches suck, and I see no reason to suffer through them.
    (b) Black coffee is something I reach for when I get the munchies after dinner.
    (c) Coffee is good.

So, no plans to give it up -- ever. You can have my coffee when you pry it from my shaking hands.

Since caffine is a stimulant, it should assist with your weight-loss, provided the coffee or tea is black or green (plain). Some green teas have just as much caffine as black, just read the label and look for "caffine free". I have given up caffine and had a headache for a few days which resolved. I do love several caffinated items so I choose not to abstain and I've lost most of the weight I want.
  • i LOVE me coffee

Green Tea just doesn't taste like coffee..mmmm... i love coffee...

its the only caffeinated thing i drink so ... nah not giving that up

Caffeine is good for weight loss. And caffeine does not dehydrate, it's a diuretic, which is not the same thing. For reference, another very common diuretic is water.

If I don't get my Caffeine I get mean. I don't care if it's coffee, diet soda, or a supplement. I needs it so people don't get hurt!

  • I haven't given up caffeine, i have given up adding sugar (black coffee only now)
Also, i have given up mega sizes, you'd be surprised how much a size back can make a difference.

I have given up sodas. I'm thinking it's not the lack of caffeine that is helping as much as it is the consumption of less sugar. I do still occasionally have a coffee and am not having any problems with that.
