I started losing weight and then I got sick.

So I got married on April 30 2011. About six months before that I weighed 137ish and was very unhealthy, comfort eating, little exercise my entire life etc. By the wedding I was down to 127, much more confident and yet feeling pretty bad. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, which causes joint pain and fatigue, but it was manageable.

Then, a couple months ago, I started to lose weight. I wasn't doing anything differently- my goal was to maintain at 127 and if anything I was exercising less because the Fibromyalgia pain was getting so bad and I was hardly sleeping. I kept losing weight and that only added to the increasing fatigue. I am still stuck in bed most days.

My doctor, the hospital, two specialists- they're all stumped. I'm now hovering around 108-109 and I'm eating about 2000 calories a day to stay there. I have another specialist appointment on the 16th, so I'm really hoping for some answers.

Now, why I'm bringing this to you lovely folks is- has anyone had something like this happen? Could my new healthier, more active lifestyle have brought this on? Also, I haven't been "checking in" with calorie count (I don't think the unhealthy weird weight loss counts) or tracking what I eat because this is all so strange, but I feel twinges of guilt about it. Should I be tracking my food?

Have they tested your thyroid to see if it's over active?

I don't think eating healthier could have made you sick. I like the overactive thyroid idea. The Drs have run tests? I would continue to eat healthy, try to maintain enough calories to maintain a healthy weight, and follow the advice of your docs. Good luck!

DEFINTIELY keep track of your food logs - the specialists working your case need to know what you are eating.. it will give them a picture that does play into any treatments pending....

You may have super-charged your body into this 'mode' thanks to making much better choices for yourself, but .... only they can do the proper tests to make sure everything is 'ticking' on queue.

But - yes... DEFINITELY keep up with your food logging....

(For my own situation, and trust me you arent alone)...

The first couple of months, I dropped A TON of weight and the three doctors who had been overseeing my care decided to make sure I wasnt running into any involved trouble as a result of the loss (almost 22 pounds in 7 weeks)....Its never been done before like that for someone like me and the long list of medical problems Im being treated for...

It took an Allergist and an Endocrinologist teaming up to learn that the foods I eliminated were actually causing MASSIVE allergic reaction and flare-up.... My thyroid was unaffected luckily... my liver became healthier, and now Im about to have my prescriptions either decreased or eliminated!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did have tests done to see if it was my thyroid, but everything looks fine there. I saw a rheumatologist on the 13th and he doesn't have any idea either. I will get back into tracking my food today and am just going to try to take it slow, listen to my body and be as healthy as I can.
