Cardio Indoors?

I am wondering how you get your heart rate up and break a sweat while exercising indoors? I live on the second floor of an apartment and as a curtosy have not wanted to take on any risky workouts that require me to be "bopping" around everywhere.

What kinds of workouts would you recommend to shed some lbs?

Thanks!

I always recommend Tae Bo. What kind of workouts are you doing now that don't disturb the people living below you?

a small elliptical would be good. you would be sweaty without jumping around. i do all my exercise in the house alot of it to videos but they all have jumping in them. and if i lived below me while doing them i'd be beating the ceiling with a broom :D better stick to a treadmill or elliptical. craigslist has them all the time

Get a Zumba DVD....not much jumping around but man, will it be a workout! Great for your waist too.

I agree with Zumba or trying to find an elliptical. I think Tae Bo would be too "noisy" in this situation. I do a lot of Turbo Kick which is also cardio kickboxing similar to Tae Bo (only much more fun IMHO) and I have disturbed my husband who was trying to sleep at the other end of the house sometimes doing it...the sound was down and doors were shut...but he still heard my moving around, lol. With Zumba or other dance videos it's not as bad. I would opt for elliptical over treadmill since you live on the second floor. At my mom's house, she has a treadmill on the second story and it sounds like a herd of elephants is running around when you are just walking on the thing, lol.

chris davey> your abs! sweet baby jesus that's impressive!!!

I just started working out with kettlebells today and I was really surprised how quickly I heated up etc. It was a pretty great workout and I can't wait to do the next one.

pu_239: whole posterior chain. If you are doing it correctly you will feel it pretty much from your hammies all the way to your upper back & possibly a bit in the front delts/shoulders as well. A swing is mainly posterior chain though not arms.

beckaboo: LOL, thanks  Killer workouts!

Just saw a nice easy one to remember.
Right: swing, clean, snatch, overhead squat
Left: swing, clean, snatch, overhead squat.

Could even put in a turkish getup if you are feeling game :)

I have a 3 story house so i have 2 good size stair cases, i jog up and down them, 5 mins burns around 50 cals for me.

if you life in a flat, you got yourself a good built in workout!
