so i want to get my mom on this site i really think it will help her start to lose weight and do it a healthy way and love herself again...but i do not know how to tell her to use the site...she is not HUGE by anymeans but i know she feels that way...she is always talking about how she cant lose weight now that she is 50 and that it is what it is and is sad about it but i KNOW she can do it with some encouragement/friends on here, a HRM and some watching what she eats (mainly making sure she eats enough) she could be a total BOMB SHELL of a woman....

but how do i suggest and help her use this site without hurting her feelings????

Maybe tell her about how you are using it to stay healthy, and that it's a great community of people who are looking for similar goals of being and staying healthy. That way you aren't saying "'eh, I found this weight loss sight and I think you should use it." :)
  • I got my mom to join MFP and she loves it. She has been slacking lately, but she thinks it is a great tool in weight loss. My mom is in pretty good shape for being 57, but she likes too look good so this helps her.

Just say hey mom do this with me! Thats what I did. Me and mom walk together, its better when you have a buddy. We always update each other on our weight loss. Just tell her you want her to feel better!

I got my mum using mfp just by her talking about weight loss and me saying well i use this you should have a look.. the thing is its about fitness not necessarily about loosing weight so she shouldn't be too upset.
Although saying that mum has heaps of trouble using it because shes well not that tech savvy..

The problem is you can't make anyone change if they don't want to. You can have an honest discussion about healthy living and eating, but if someone doesn't have the motivation to make a change they won't do it. I've been through this with my mom so many times. She's overweight, doesn't exercise, doesn't eat healthy and has complained to me about it many times, asked for my help, etc but then she never does anything about it. Now things are just a bit awkward, she seems to think I'm always judging her (which I'm not) so be careful how you go about talking to your mom. You definitely don't want to offend her or make her uncomfortable.
