Define 'ridiculous' - that can vary greatly between different people. :-)

I love my Polar FT4 - I paid $90 at Target but I hear you can find it on Amazon for under $70. It has the chest strap and lets you program in height/weight/age and gives a good estimate of calories burned during your workout.

I've done a bunch of research and asked a lot of people about this and I came up with the Polar F4t. On Amazon it's about 70 give or take and it has everything you'd want in a HRM. I'm so excited to buy mine!

To me, paying hundreds of dollars is out of my range :)

You should maybe ask Father Christmas for one - being only a few weeks off....

I've seen pictures of Father Christmas. I don't think he owns one.

I hear Polar is the way to go, but I found a Garmin FR60 on craigslist for 30 bucks and I'm going with that. One day I'll be able to get a Polar FT4 or FT7. Maybe with my tax returns! LOL!

If all you need is something to read your heartrate now and then during your workout, that will work out just fine. If you're looking for something to estimate the calories you're burning during your workout, 'strapless' is not a great option b/c it is not monitoring continuously, only when you 'touch' the sensor, so any calorie calculations can be skewed based on when you're taking your heartrate. Also I would venture to guess that *most* people on MFP looking to buy a HRM are interested b/c of the calorie estimating capabilities, and I don't see anything in the description of this one that indicates it has that feature.
