I am absolutely ADDICTED to the carbinated fiz feeling. Anyway...I KNOW soda is bad for you, I get it, BUT I wanna know what is the difference between regular and diet soda? Does DIET actually make it possible to sip some and still lose weight?
I know I shouldn't drink it at ALL, BUT I guess I just wanna know if...If I'm gonna have a soda, should I be choosing DIET?

all 82 lbs of my loss has been soaked, saturated in Coke Zero. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Lots of haters on MFP, but I say enjoy!0 -
there is nothing wrong with diet soda - it has aspartame (however you spell it) instead of sugar - I read somewhere that it makes you retain a bit of water but I dunno, I dont see anything wrong with having a diet soda
just my 2 cents0 -
Artificial sweeteners and other kinds of alchemy make it 0 calories. I occasionally drink Coke Zero with my Jack Daniels, so I see no harm in the indulgence.0

For those who will say the "chemicals" are harmful, please specify which chemicals are harmful, at what dose those chemicals are harmful, how much diet soda one would have to consume to get said dose, and the scientific basis for your assertion. Thanks.0

The difference between regular soda and diet soda is that diet soda has fewer calories. That's why they call it diet soda.
Is it good for you? Not really, but if it fits in with your calorie allowance/macros, then you can drink it and still lose weight. What you put into your body is up to you.0 -
I drink it occasionally-- mostly I drink green tea, but a diet soda does slip in every few days. It's never caused me any problems. I don't have any problems losing weight and drinking diet soda every couple days.0

Diet Soda > Soda
Water > Diet sodas.
If you must have fizz, you'll avoid calories with diet soda.
If you drink it exclusively, you might have some sodium issues.0 -
There's a lot of talk on aspartame (found in diet beverages) to be bad for you, but I'm not certain I believe all the hype. I'm not a diet soda drinker, hate the stuff actually, but I do enjoy Sugarfree Red Bull and that has aspartame too. If I were you, I'd cut back on the quantity of diet sodas you drink and be sure to get more water a day, but if it's something you enjoy you don't have to elliminate it completely.0

There is a theory running around that having artificial sweeteners makes you crave sweets, because as you taste the sweetness, your body prepares itself to receive sugar, and when it does not you want it more.
Honestly, from my personal experience, I find that nothing is a good substitute for clean water, but diet drinks aren't particularly harmful unless consumed in place of water.
If I have a diet coke or two in a day, it's not a big deal. However, when I drink diet coke and coffee all day long and don't drink any water, the acidity tears up my insides, and I get a little irritable from all the caffeine.
I am not entirely sold on the idea that artificial sweeteners are harmful, but I try not to consume any pop in quantity.
I would be willing to say that drinking diet pop is better than regular pop, but no pop at all is probably best. I try to drink it only when I really want to, but not as an all day long convenient beverage. Water needs to be my main drink.0 -
I think it's alright to drink it... there are far worse things that you could put in your body... I drank it the entire time I was losing weight. Sometimes it really saves me--it's a treat for me, and if I'm out of calories and am just going crazy for something sweet, at least I can have a diet something-or-other to tide me over! It's saved me a couple of times. I think if you want to drink it, go for it. I think moderation is the key, just as with everything else in this world (whatever that is!!).0

BUT I wanna know what is the difference between regular and diet soda?
Calories in 12 oz Regular Coke = 143
Calories in 12 oz Diet Coke/Coke Zero = 0
As for the chemicals, artificial sweeteners, etc. you will get a variety of opinions as to whether they are "good" or "bad". For myself, I look at calories. Therefore regular soda = BAD.0 -
Ok...makes sense! Thanks guys!!0

1 regular 355 ml diet soda has in average 40 mg of sodium. The general recommended sodium/day for healthy people is around 2500 mg (MFP) so 1 soda is 1/62 from the daily sodium need.Diet Soda > Soda
Water > Diet sodas.
If you must have fizz, you'll avoid calories with diet soda.
If you drink it exclusively, you might have some sodium issues.0
