Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms here !

Well, hubby has jumped on board and I'm glad. It's not about the weight but the health and I want him around for as long as possible. And since he is a trained Chef it really helps me with new menu ideas and stopping the bordem of the same things over and over again.

I talked to my sister today, while we are visiting mom has a photographer friend comming over to get some good photos of Dad with the kids and grandkids so we can all have some beautiful pictures. Plus I'll be wearing out my poor camera as well capturing as many memories as possible.

I'm afraid being with my family is going to hinder my weight-loss but I'm gonna try my hardest to stay on track and control my portions. My entire family is over-weight/obese and we loveeeeeeeee to gather around food, it's gonna be hard, but I can do it. They've already got a big turkey dinner planned for the day we get there, Lord help me control myself around my daddy's cookin'.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend

I hope no one minds me posting here, as I am not over 300...but I just wanted to stop in and wish you all well on your journeys to better health. I'm so proud of all of you for taking control of your lives and your health. At one point, I had 100 pounds to lose...so if I can do it, I know you all can!

    Congrats and best wishes! :flowerforyou:

Blazin just remember that the food still tastes as good in smaller portions and you will feel better if you just take a little of everything. But in the long run the time you spend with your family is what will stick with you forever not the food. Take lots of pictures and make lots of memories and don't let food get in the way of your joy!:flowerforyou:

MPJS great job on the loss!:drinker:

Satellite thanks for the encouragement you have done very well!

I am making quick work on this weight thing considering I had the stomach bug yesterday thanks to my sis who had it last Tuesday. I had Sprite and crackers yesterday when I could keep it down. I just felt so out of it but no fever unless it was low grade so I just kinda slept it off and read and watched TV. I am feeling better today but stomach is still queasy so I am still taking it easy, just some protein shakes and a cereal bar today to give my tummy time to get back to normal. I guess I should thank God for the jumpstart since I wasn't going to start until today He helped a day earlier. LOL! Every cloud has a silver lining.

Hope you all have a great week!:flowerforyou:

Hey all! I only lost 1 pound this week. My son, Joey, lost 6!! I'm so proud of him. Since I had such a big loss last week, I figured this week wouldn't be much. I'm just glad I didn't gain.

Aur, you rock! 4 pounds is huge!

Kristi, good luck tomorrow. I have complete faith that you'll be down.

Jenny, where did you get the quit smoking ticker? Congrats by the way. I'm 4 months and 6 days smoke free myself. Feels good doesn't it?

Love you all. Have a great evening. I can't wait to see who wins The Biggest Loser. :flowerforyou:

My name is Caitlin, I'll be 21 on the 19th of May, I have a ten month old son, I'm a full time college student, work online, and work at McDonald's part time (so so so bad for a big girl to work there)... *sigh*....

I'm currently 325 pounds and 5'10". I have very little willpower with dieting, and exercising is a chore. (I'm trying to do tons of housecleaning... I figure if you break a sweat it's exercise!).

I'm married... I'm concerned my husband might be cheating on me... Its really hard for me to deal with. He's cheated on me three times since we've been together (3 years now). I've forgiven him and he seems to have gotten better.

Sometimes I catch him looking at profiles of scantily clad girls online.. before he quickly closes the tabs.

    It's depressing.

I don't want to lose weight for him, I want to lose it for myself, and for my son, so I can keep up with him!

I need a buddy to lose weight with, one who can help me stay motivated and honest about my food intake.

    Thanks :)

    Evening all!

Stillkristi was snooping around over on the black team thread and asked me If I would be interested in stopping in to say hello and share my story. She's not the only one who lurks as I often pop in and see what you guys are up too. I have definately been impressed and inspired by each of you as I have trolled through on occasion so I wanted to congratulate you all on the hard work you have put in and the wonderful decision you have made for yourselves. When I started my Journey here of MFP I was 319 lbs so I know all about having a big hill to climb and a whole lot of pounds to lose. My total goal is to lose 142 lbs and In the last six months I have said goodbye to 96 of those. Like many people who struggle with there weight this is NOT the first time that I have tried to go down this road. It's NOT the first time I was tired of not being the person I knew I should be. But this time HAS been different and I think sharing those differences might be helpful to others. So here is what is different.

#1: Every other time I have tried to lose weight is had been a chore. Something that I HAD to do and couldnt wait to stop doing. This time I really looked at the mental side of this whole thing. One day it just clicked and I realized that this is a permanent change for me. I realized that by focusing on building new and better habits rather than temporarily putting bad habits on hold, I have been able to sit back and enjoy this change and really get comfortable in my new skin.

#2: Every other time I have tried to lose weight it has been a race to the finish. Take the time to accept the pace that the weight comes off. I know It has been coming off pretty quick for me but on those weeks that the scale doesnt move my way it's perfectly ok. Time is a funny thing. I always tell myself this "Whether I do something good for myself today or not, the time is still going to pass just the same. If I lose 2 pounds in a year it's still worth it because that day one year from now is going to come to pass either way and I can either be 2 pounds healthier when it does or I can have changed nothing to make my life better."

#3: Cut yourself some slack- Family events, holidays and special occasion are just that. Special. Don't kill yourself over your calories on thanksgiving. As long as the majority of your days are good ones than you are moving in the right direction. If you spend EVERY special occasion worrying about calories then your likley to miss out on alot of good memories with those you love. Remember, someone bringing cupcakes to work is not really a special occasion, But mother's day most certainly is. Remember, Skinny people eat ice cream. Just not as often as we chunky monkeys do.

#4: Get active in every day life and don't track those calories- I make it a point to kick the soccer ball around with my son or wrestle with my kids before bed time. Enjoy your life.

#5: The key to making it through a workout is the first 5 mins- You will have those days when you just don't feel like getting some excersice in. I have these days ALL the time. You feel tired, discouraged and you will ask yourself "Is it even possible to get through a 30 min work out?" Whether your work out is 10, 20 or 60 mins the key is making it through the first 5 mins. If you can just get up and get going you will be suprised how you wake up! 5 mins into the workout you start to feel great, unstoppable and you start to wonder how you could have felt so pooped to begin with. And if I think about it I can not think of one time that I finished working out and thought to myself "Man, do I ever regret working out just now."

You seem like an amazing group and I hope the insight I have gained might help someone. I know I have so much more to learn and I am loving every step of this journey. Every success and every failure has made me stronger. When I began this journey I was embarrased by myself. I was always to tired for my kids and could barely get through a day at work without being completely exhausted....couldnt get a good nights sleep because the sleep apnea was so bad. I was intimidated by intimacy with my wife because I felt unworthy and my marraige was suffering. You name your problem and I probably know where your coming from. Today I come home from work and play with my boys. I sleep like a baby. I run 3 miles 3 times a week and I am now in better shape than I was on my wedding day. My wife and I are closer and more in love than ever. You will fall along the way, I can promise you that. You will amaze yourself just as often. Take it one day at a time and remember your worth. Your all amazing people for being here in the first place I wish you all the best. You can find me over on the black team thread if you ever need to vent or need some inspiration. I could not have come this far without the support of my wife and other friends on this site.
Keep up the good work folks!

stillkirsti I say your blog and thought it was great I was wondering how many steps are there and does each one have a different meaning is it like the 12 step program. I know some of them But I did not know that you could do it for food also Thankyou good luck to you :flowerforyou:

Hi, gang - been a long day, but a good one. Spyguy! YOU ROCK! What a great story! Thank you so much for all your insight. What is really exciting to me is how much you lost in just six months. Thats wonderful! And, I love that you remind us that this is about life. Not about getting somewhere so we can stop eating healthy. (When you think about it, how stupid is that??) Rather, its about living healthy through eating healthy, and thinking healthy and acting healthy. Great insight! Thanks so much!

MPJS - thanks for the compliment on my blog. The theme for my blog is taken from a Chinese proverb "The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." So, each step represents just that - another step. Its not a 12 step thing, though there are 12 step programs dedicated to weight loss, or rather to food addiction. I think the 12 steps are basically always the same.

Caite - welcome to the group. You've come to the right place! This whole group is very supportive, and accountable. Sounds like you are going through some tough times at home. I am so sorry! For me, the thing to remember, if you are tempted to turn to food for comfort is that is a false comfort. Instead, we need to learn to comfort ourselves by being healthy. I am feeling so much better than I was 3 months ago, and it is really a source of contentment and happiness. You can do this! We are all here to help!

Everyone else, hope to hear from you soon!

    Hi everybody!

Yesterday was my weigh in and I lost 7.5 pds! I'm so excited because this time my hard work is really showing. I've lost a total of 49.9 pds, but for some reason hardly anyone around me "really" notices. They say "I can see it in your face and your neck area". I'm thinking, "What about my butt?"!!!!!:grumble:
I know it's probaby because I have soooo much to lose but I'm determined to keep it moving and continue on this journey without worrying about the approval or recongnition of others.

spyguy-thanks for your post!! It was on point and I printed it out for a quick reminder of what's really important on my journey!

loula-congratulations on you and your son's great progress toward health!:drinker:

    Amy-I hope you're feeling better, (I hate tummy aches)

Caite-Welcome to the best group in the world!!!:flowerforyou: I can't say it enough, Everyone in this group have been so supportive of each other. I know it's hard to focus when you have multiple problems going on, trust me I've been there. :brokenheart: But you think about the love you have for your son as well as yourself above everything else and keep your eye on the prize, which is a healthier you!!!! We can do this together!!!

stillkristi-good luck!!! "go kristi, go kristi"!!!!

I get that all the time. My husband has lost 51 lbs and I have lost 44. There are peopel at the gym that come up to me and say WOW your husband has lost a lot of weight. It makes me want to say HEY what about me. I think because I had a lot more to lose, it doesn't show as much.

One day... they will be saying to my husband..WOW your wife is hot!!!   and I won't be sweating!

Hi everyone. Just checking in briefly.

I finally got power back yesterday from the storm last Friday. There is a LOT of devestation here in Southern Illinois from the storm, but we are making things work.

    Will check in again later.

Here are some pictures of a small portion of the damage of what they are calling an "in land hurricane"

Have a great day everyone... Let's keep our heads and spirits up!
  • Oh, I forgot!

Do you guys know about Walden Farms NO CALORIES, NO FAT, NO CARBS, NO SUGARS: dressings, sauces, p. butter, jellys, etc.???? I just found them yesterday, and am baffled at why on earth all products are not made like them.
I tried their shrimp sauce and ranch dressings yesterday, and almost fell out of my chair... they tasted so good. It is hard to believe that they are no cal.

If you haven't , check them out. The website is the name .com.

I don't like the Walden Farms products............I have tried several of the dressings and didn't like any of them. I am following Atkins, so the no fat thing is out for me, I eat fat very liberally and just cut out the bad carbs from my diet..........

I have started making my own mayonnaise, salad dressings, and other condiment type stuff........

Wow you all are just melting away :drinker: Belle 7.5 woohoo girl!:drinker: I hope my scale says the same when I weigh in again.

I am feeling much better and was able to eat a good dinner last night so I am not as shaky as I was earlier in the day and I got rehydrated so that helped, too. Thanks for all the well wishes.:flowerforyou:

Belle I know what you mean, too. I had to lose over 100 pounds before anyone noticed or started complimenting when I had gastric bypass in 2001. I mean I know I was over 500 pounds but I thought people would notice sooner. Oh well I noticed and felt a lot better.

Spyguy you are so right, when it comes down to it we have to find the strength in ourselves and do it for life and not just until it is gone. Thanks for that advice I really took it to heart and it gave me a new way to look at things. I have been on a "diet" at least since I was 4 so I guess it has always been something to get to a certain number of pounds or a certain size when it should be a goal of overall health and continued well being. I know that God gave me this battle for a reason and I just need to learn from the journey.

I thank God every day for people like you all who help me through each day and can understand what I am going through on the deepest level.:flowerforyou:
