I was happy losing the 5lbs that I had recently gained, and ready to start fresh. Sadly, it seemed despite being under cals and fat I gained 2lbs (on water pills so that isn't it). That I was willing to ride out until today when my son's father became his usual mean self. I ate 15-20 hershy kisses. i am actually suprised I stopped at that - feel sick now. Change is in the works for my household, but for my son's sake, I have been trying to set his father up for success rather than his inevitable failure. I, my diet, and my sanity are at jeopardy, and I could use any advise as to how to deal with my own needs until postitive change can be made in my bigger picture. Thanks much, and happy mother's day to fellow moms.

Ah yes..... I've been in your shoes. First off, I had an almost picture perfect week of eating and when I weighed myself this morning...... nothing. Not a pound. However, when I looked at my report for exercise and what my goals were, I found that although I hit my time target, my calories burned was far below what I needed. Chances are that might be it. I *feel* better though - eating only whole foods (nothing processed -from a box) and no sugar, and that's a start.
As dificult as it might be, you need to make YOU a priority....and you're aware of this, so that's a step in the right direction. Keep in mind that you'll have to log those hershey kisses and be sure you do. 18 kisses is 400 calories, 24 g fat & 46 g sugar. You won't want to do that very often once you log it in. It's an eye opener. My advise is that you don't keep hershey kisses in the house - no one needs Hershey kisses, and if they think they do, they can eat them somewhere else. Remember - - just because no one sees you eat it doesn't mean it doesn't count!0 -
going for a run instead of turning to food would have been a better choice. You wouldn't believe how a good run can clear your head and help you get things in perspective! You can't control what he does only what you do! Believe me i've been there done that!
Chalk this up to a bad choice and make a better one next time, one slip isn't going to set you back that much. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
I've always found that a heavy bag does wonders.0

.... a heavy bad? Do you mean a punching bag? - - Yeah!!! Now *that's* what I'm talkin about. THAT would work wonders!!0

I've dealt with a manipulative and abusive man, and finally left him. You can't make him be a better person, all you can do is take care of YOU.0

Focus on you! Drink glasses of water before you pick up the hershey's. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: I have been where you are. Your son really requires you to live long and healthy. Think of his face whenever you want to put something unhealthy in your mouth. If you are with an abusive man, that is hard enough. Think of you and please do not abuse yourself. Love to you.0

I've been going through some tough times at home as well, and luckily for me I have been able to change my sadness into anger, and my anger into a sense of empowerment. Rather than sitting around being sad during hard times, I tell myself, I'll be damned if this _____________ situation is going to get in the way of all the hard work I have done. This pumps me up and gives me enough motivation and energy to go for that run or bike ride.
Also, when you have a lot of calories left over, leave room for a treat a few nights a week. My treat has been a glass of wine. Lately I always have a bottle in the house (ha, sound like a wino) and it really helps take the edge off from the day and helps me relax at night. Good luck, you'll get through this!0 -
I thank all who replied here. I feel like a good run, but I am carrying too much weight for the shins for now, and I have been asking to have the heavy bag hung (currently laying on the basement floor). Despite the roadblocks, I am determind not to let this man, or anyone else, take my power from me again. I will resort to a healthy way of venting whenever anyone makes me feel bad....maybe just dancing around my BR...with a glass of wine to follow :-)
It is great to be here, on MFP.
