I dont really know where to aim for - I did go from 218 down to 152lb but when I went to see my family they said I had lost to much weight!! after that a went a bit wobbly and ended up back at 170 ish! now I am 162 so on my way again! I am just wondering what your targets are?
mine had always been 140 lb but if people are already saying I have gone to far, what do I do now
I am 5 ft 3 almost 4
I am 32 and have had 5 children by c section (not sure this belly will ever go)

I am about 5'4 and weigh 175 now. My goal weight is 140. I think sometimes it's hard for people who are used to seeing you a certain way to adjust to a slimmer you. Just do whatever makes you happy and don't worry about if other people think you are getting too slim.0

Don't worry about what other people tell you (they are probably just jealous of your success). Your goal is a personal one and one you will live with the rest of your life so set what makes you feel happy and healthy. That is all that matters.0

I agree with everyone so far but have you talked to your doctor? My goal is 140 as well but all the charts say between 104 and 140 and that's a big gap to have to choose from so I would see what your personal doc says?

when I went to see them I was so proud of my weight loss and feeling happy and confident! in a few horrible comments my confidence shattered! I dread going back which is awful, because my mum was one of them!0

I am 5'4" and 27 years old no children, never any pregnancies. I am down to 133 now, from 151. Mostly everyone I know says I don't need to lose any more weight. My mom thinks I can lose a few more pounds. But I feel good where I'm at, just wanna tone up my arms a little bit. So it's really up to you and how you feel day-to-day.
Go to http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ and calculate your BMI. It'll tell you whether your weight is within the healthy range for your height.
Also, if I lose more than what I've lost, I won't have any boobs left! hahaha so that's more motivation for me to just kind of maintain the weight i have going now.0 -
I know how stressful that can be. Do what makes you happy. My philosphy now is no one will make me feel bad about my weighloss and goals...keep up the good work girl!0

I would agree that your family is probably just jealous of your success. Losing weight is hard and not many people want to put in the effort, and you've done a lot of hard work so far!
In my opinion, 140 is a very reasonable weight for a woman who is 5' 4". Of course, 150 can also look great on a woman of that height if she's more musclar (remember muscle weighs more than fat). Anything below 140 you probably will start to look a little on the "thin" side. Your family should be happy for you. You're on the way to a longer, healthier life so you'll be better equipped to take care of them. Congrats, you should be confident because you've come along way. Don't give up and don't let their comments get you down. If they really start to bug you, change the subject from weight loss angle to a health angle. What other benefits do you see? More endurance, are you stronger, can you lift more weight? If they can't understand that, then they are being unfair to you.0 -
I'm aiming for 130. I'm 5'4". I noticed I'm at 168lbs and that's what my family does too. Not to sound paranoid, but I think they don't want me to be thinner than them. My Mom and sister have always had eating disorders. So they were around 100 lbs forever. Now that my sister is in her late 30's she is up to 180lbs & my Mom is around 190lbs. My Mom constantly comments on my facebook. "Now honey don't lose too much. Don't want you to blow away!" or "Okay Rach that enough". I've always been the big one. I think that's easier for them. They look at me and say, well I'm not as big as her so I'm ok. I'm doing what is best for me. The ideal weight for my height is 111 to 130. So, I'll hit the 130 and see how I feel after that. If I'm still flabby or have fat in odd place then I'll drop a little more.0

heres what ive noticed...family ALWAYS are the first ones to be like, " oh! you dont need to lose anymore!" why? i think its because they were used to seeing us bigger...just because we get smaller doesnt mean thats the best we can be. do what makes you feel best. im 5'3"- 5'4" and im 128lbs....my family says the same thing BUT i also know that i have afew lbs left that i could get rid of....so why not?0

Hi! First off your doing an awesome job and keep up the great work!! I am 41, same height as you right in the middle between 5'3' & 5'4". The suggested weight range for myself was 135-146. For me, I felt most comfortable and healthy @ 140. But, we are all differnet and you be happy at where you feel your greatest!! Once again, awesome job!!0

I am 5'4" and my goal weight was 140-145lbs. I am in the higher range now but I feel great.
Please don't let anyone make you feel like you lost too much, look too skinny or look bad.0 -
Don't worry about what other people tell you (they are probably just jealous of your success). Your goal is a personal one and one you will live with the rest of your life so set what makes you feel happy and healthy. That is all that matters.
I so agree. Some people are telling me I getting too skinny ( I have almost 40 more lbs to lose) and some are talking behind my back saying "There is no way she has lost 50 lbs." "She can't be wearing THAT size because that's the size I'm in." "She can't be 170 lbs because I'm 170 lbs." BLAH BLAH.....
But I'm not doing it for them. I'm doing it FOR ME!!!0 -
I definitely agree with the folks who say that friends and family are used to seeing you at a certain weight. As long as you're healthy and you're feeling ok, go with what makes you happy! :flowerforyou:0

A VERY general rule of thumb is 100 lbs. for a woman who is 5' 0" + 5 lbs. for each inch over that height. I'm 5' 6", so that would put me at 130. However, I'm currently about 123 with great muscle definition, and I'm loving it. I don't think I look too thin, and no one has said that to me. Of course, it's all about your own body image and what makes you comfortable. Some women prefer more curves; some prefer a more sinewy look.0

I agree with the majority so far! -- Everyone has their opinions of what is too skinny and what's not. If I were you, I would aim to be FIT and HEALTHY and not worry so much about the number since you've already lost all the way you definately know how to do both of those things. I am 5'9, very curvy and my goal is 165 right now and then to see how I look and feel then.0

I totally understand what you are feeling but this weight loss journey is about you and your health. As everyone else has said, forget what people may say and stay the course. I'm pretty sure you are inspiring your love ones whether they say it or not. Stay encouraged and keep up the good work!0

As one of the other posters mentioned, go with what is healthy for YOU and your height. Most often this means looking at BMI and making sure that you are in the healthy range. If someone thinks you look too skinny, that is their problem and their jealousy if you have paid attention and are within the range for healthy for BMI.
Also, keep in mind that as the general population size has gone up, so has our impression of what is healthy and whatnot. At a 32% BMI, I had people saying that I looked really good and they couldn't understand why I thought I was overwheight. I may carry weight well, but that doesn't mean that I should allow myself to be at an unhealthy weight just because it was "good enough" for other people.
If your family starts to really get on your case, I would honestly pull out the BMI charts and point out why you want to be where your goal is. Mine is set for 135, which is 23% BMI. Healthy, but still nowhere near as low as I could go, though to be honest, I don't know that I would want to go much lower since it would be hard to manage that and have any muscle at all.
Long story short - go with what is healthiest for you and recognize that the people who are giving you a hard time about your goals are jealous or do not understand what is healthy anymore.0
