When I eat foods that are liquid or packaged, I have no problem measuring the contents of the food and calculating the calories, but when it comes to foods such as Cheese, a solid food measured in oz I have no idea how to measure this and calculate the calories, I do not have a food scale which I know would help but I cannot afford one, are there any other methods to measure your food accurately or close enough so you have a some what correct calculation?

  • For cheese buy 8 oz block, cut it evenly down the center, then make 8 even rectangles. Now you have 1 ounce servings! Shredded cheese usually says the serving size on back. Like 1/4 cup, etc. Other things take work. A 3-4 ounce chicken breast is about the size of a deck of cards. So that little extra piece on the back, called a tenderloin, needs to be removed and used later. Or buy chicken tenderloins in a frozen bag. A 2lbs bag usually has 20 tenderloins in it. So, each piece is around 1.5 ounces. The nutritional guide on the back is the easiest way to figure it out. One last example, if you buy a pound of groung turkey. One serving is 4 oz. So 16 oz in a pound. 4 servings in a pack. Hope this helps.
