Oops. Had a human day. In fact, a bad time of it of late.

I don't know HOW it happened, but it did.

They were soooo good. Peanuts ! Delivered by a lovely person, presented in wooden packaging.

There were too many......

The angel on one shoulder was silenced by an act of my own will. Or lack thereof.

The gluttony demon on the other shoulder... "just ONE more", "it is ok".

Consumed the lot. Happy was I, when they were gone.

Now, a few hours later, oooooh, feeling it. Memories of one outing MANY years ago, when I last shelled and ate all of them.

How does one deal with such temptations ?

How do you see it coming and STOP it ?

What food(s) are delivered by Trojan Horse, and catch you off guard like this ?

I ration. You've seen it with my desserts in my diary *grin* I allow myself only a couple of whatever it is.. and put the rest away.. I also leave my 'naughties' for after dinner (fall back from childhood? eat all your dinner or you don't get dessert?) so that way I have a limit on how many I CAN fit in my belly, and I can put them down and go to bed!

    It was mindless snacking.

    I love peanuts !

Small snack packs are a metered dose.

I thought I had the WILL power to only shell a few, but NOOOO, I had to do the lot, didn't I ?

I even had my 2 helpers by my side, low cal mints on one side, and water on the other.

Maybe it was the mix of yummy frozen Gatorade (dulling the senses), anxiety, nervousness, boredom, panic attacks, sitting at my desk, trying to hit a deadline, and having to shell the peanuts (fidget response) ?

i'm dreadful at work - I'm a nurse and so many people give us boxes of chocolates... It's like i've been in the desert for years whenever they arrive... Nom nom nom....

    Just can't help myself!!

But then i'm glad when the shift is over and i go home to where there is NO chocolate, and i know that when i get in the next day they'll allllllll be gone!

    until the next box.....
  • Love your post!

My trojan horse?...Lindt chocolates...given by work as a Christmas present, in a lovely golden box.

So far I have been rationing and sharing with my kids (that always helps), but yes, some people do make it difficult (with all the best intentions).

What about snack sized zip-loc bags, Gazz? Ration them into that - then you have your metered dose :D

Great post! I'd have to say desserts are the downfall for me. Especially around the holidays, since it seems like every one turns into Betty Crocker.

I was kinda hoping you would have something to address the "mix of yummy frozen Gatorade (dulling the senses), anxiety, nervousness, boredom, panic attacks, sitting at my desk, trying to hit a deadline, and having to shell the peanuts (fidget response)".

Like a rubber mallet to my thick skull !

Anything for AFTER the fact too, would be appreciated. Feel like throwing up, but that just WON'T happen (an ED trait - in my case it doesn't happen). I feel an allergic reaction inside my stomach.

Thanks for the 'prevention by ration' tip.
  • Surely the act of shelling all the peanuts consumed some of the calories gained during the consumption?

    hah! Sorry, I'm an enabler, aren't I? :p

Hmm, quit the fidgeting? Take up knitting? (I'm also not very good at suggestions - but I know plenty of people who knit after giving up smoking for that reason)

What about a Rubix Cube - put that on your table, feel like fidgeting, or even getting anxious and dive into your cube for a while?
