the little matter of motivation

Good Morning all

I was a member a couple years back, but fell off the wagon and gained 40 lbs! I recently rejoined in a bid to support my husband with monitoring his nutrition in keeping with his IBS.

I wasn't tracking as often as I should have been and had no motivation at all. Then I saw my wedding photos (I got married in Sept) and got even less motivated, if that's possible. It was a wonderful, emotional day, and my husband could not stop singing my praises, but I was not happy with the way I looked and the pictures just made it that much harder to ignore. But nonetheless, I didn't get motivated.

But I am now, and all it took was cleaning out my closet. You see, we're moving into a new home in a couple of weeks and I was going through my closet, packing away the clothes I hadn't been wearing as often to get them out of the way. And then I came across my favourite pair of jeans (shocker!) and remembered what I used to look like, and most importantly, feel like, when I wore them ( I'm currently a 18-20, and my favourite jeans are a 12).

So I'm back with the gumption that I don't think I've had before and that much more to gain. We plan on having children in a couple of years, and I don't want all the complcations that come with adding another 40 lbs to my already 240 lb frame. So if I can't stay motivated, God help me!

I have started modifying my diet and portions a little here and there, but I am having difficulty getting motivated to exercise, so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be lovely.

Happy Holidays!

Keep the fact that weight loss is 75 or 80 percent diet and 20 or 25 percent excercise. Prioritize by getting your eating habbits in order first and work on exercise 2nd to start.
I started out simply walking a little bit each day. Not very fast and not very long. I would skip some days due to weather or lack of motivation but I ALWAYS stuck to my healthier eating habbits. I ended up losing 30 or 40 lbs in a fairly short amount of time.

I now run 3 or 4 miles several days a week and LOVE it. I started out hating exercise and ended up now loving it. It makes you feel so incredible but it takes time to get to that point. If you push yourself a little bit each day, you'll get there too and there really is no other way to get the feeling it will give you. It only comes to those who dedicate themselves to it though.
I have been on my journey for 3 or 4 years now. I've had ups and downs but I'm healthier now than at any previous point in my life and it feels great!

    Good luck to you.
