When I lose weight - where does it go? What happens when I burn calories?

Fat cells shrink, but stay there. (dietitian explained this to me, can't remember details).

    That's all I got lol.

Basically you burn it? It's like gas used in a car I guess would be a good analogy.

It is banished to a temporal worm hole, where it will lurk and grow in power before eventually returning to this world in its new, altered state.... Cheetos.

Energy is movment. Nothing will move with out energy. Calories are energy. When you exercise the fat molecule breaks down and gets converted to ATP which is "really" the main source of energy. Exercise is movment, the more you do, or the higher intensity you do, the more calories you require to perform that task.

Basically that. When food is broken down, your body makes ATP to use for energy, but when it is not used, your body stores it. Fat is used to store energy (ATP) when you don't need it since fat stores the best out of all your body. When you use your energy, the fat is broken down and then used as the ATP it originally was.

This also explains why when you eat less, you also lose weight. When there is less food coming in, less ATP is made, and you use all of it, so none is stored as fat.
