Does anyone know if stress really causes fat gain??? Im a very beyond stressed out person and i feel like being stressed all the time leads to me over eating or picking the wrong foods to eat.... I have tried many things to lower my stress but it's not working and so im wondering if the reason im not losing is due to my high levels of stress.... And is there any foods that help with stress? Im really in need of some help with losing weight....

check out these pages -- you are right, stress can lead to weight gain (or make it terribly hard to get off) and yes there are foods that should help

    http://www.womenshealthmag.com/nutrition/stress-busting-foods

    http://stress.about.com/od/stresshealth/a/weightgain.htm

good luck! you also might just try to find some ways (yoga, meditation, etc) to calm down; i prefer to exercise super hard to bust through stress, worry, etc. it seems to help me not only feel better physically, but mentally as well

you might check in on women's health website frequently -- if it's anything like men's health (LOL -- it is of course) they always have great nutrition information and quick (no gym required) workouts you could easily shove into any 15 minutes of time you have to yourself... if you honestly don't have 15 minutes a day to yourself, then forget about stress -- you need a total reorganization.

i love my family and friends, but they all know that nutrition and fitness are important to me and for a certain amount of time per day most days of the week, i need my time to work on me.

you can do it! where there's a will, there's a way!

I've read a little about foods to combat stress, but even more about foods that can hurt in an already stressed person - basically anything that can give a quick rush.

I'm actually a big believer in exercise. Combatting stress is just one of the many things regular exercise can do (if you didn't already know). The natural endorphines that exercise releases to the brain have even been known to help those with clinical depression - I have a loved one that swears by that.

Anyway, hope everything gets better for you. :flowerforyou:

Yeah, stress triggers the ancient human flight or fight response, which releases the hormone cortisol into the blood, now we always have some cortisol floating around in there, and with normal levels of tetstosterone and HGH to go along with it, that's a good thing (it helps target protein and amino acids for muscle building instead of energy consumption by triggering glycogen release into the body), but raise the cortisol without raising the HGH and Testosterone levels (when we exercise, all 3 hormones go up at the same rate), and it starts blocking insulin, this is bad. glycogen levels rise, also protein synthesis levels drop, and muscle generation is stunted for a period. Over the long term it can cause reduction in bone mass, reduction in muscle mass, and increase in adipose fat (body fat) levels as well as a decreased immune response among other things.

    In other words

Stress = bad stuff happening in your body.

You might also want to try B vitiamins. They help with stress. I take Stresstabs Energy. You can get them from most pharmacies. I get mine from Walmart. They seem to help me but exercise helps even more.

    Hope this helps.

are you alone with the kids? I think hubbys in the military right? Maybe your mom or a friend can take the boys off your hands once in awhile? it sounds like you really need some you time. Grab a friend and get manicures or something. Stress sucks, I can only imagine how hard it is to be alone with 3 young boys all day. You need a break, even if it's only for half an hour, once a week. you know?
