Why is it when I eat first thing in the morning - I'm hungry all day! But when I eat late morning - almost lunch I do so well with my eating - much less hungry during the day.

I don't get it!

  • I am the same way and often have "Brunch" instead of traditional breakfast. :)

That is the same with me. I have not eaten breakfast since I was about 13 because when I eat breakfast, I get hungry at about 10am, but if I don't eat until 11, I'm good all day. I originally thought it was the carbs in cereal, pancakes, etc. but I'm not sure that is what it is.

It's probably more common than you think. If you are more comfortable waiting until mid morning or even lunch time, just do it. I'd suggest having a look at the leangains website for some decent info on intermittent fasting.

You can do this and still lose weight, don't stress about having to eat the 'most important meal of the day', you won't explode if you don't :P

    good advice :)

If you're not hungry early morning don't eat. I personally haven't eaten "breakfast" all year. No harm done.

Glad you brought that up. I have been up since 6 this morning and worked out but I am still not hungry and it is going on 11am my time. Will take the advice and just eat when I get hungry which will more than likely be around noon.

Hey if that works for you, then go with it. There is no Law that states you have to eat breakfast lunch and dinner. Everyone is different and needs to do what works for them. =)

One caveat is that you should make sure you're getting adequate protein each day.

Exercise is catabolic in nature until you are fed.

This is why some people recommend taking BCAA's if doing fasted workouts. However, if adequate protein is intaken daily then it may not actually be required.

What's going on is that your metabolism is turned on with breakfast. Not eating breakfast is suppressing your metabolism so it's good your eatin early and gettin it going for the day. <~ that's what you want!!

Chris - thank you for providing a link to a page that links to a peer-reviewed journal as a citation. That makes a big difference, at least to me.

I find that if I eat a lousy breakfast I am hungry very soon thereafter. If I skip breakfast, I am not really hungry until noonish. If I eat a high-protein, low glycemic load breakfast, I can feel satisfied well into the afternoon, almost until dinner time. Today, I had a cup of full-fat cottage cheese and a half cup of black beans for breakfast, and it lasted me until dinner with only another quarter cup of beans at around 3:30. I got a little hungry during the day, but it was the kind that is very easy to ignore.
