My weight fluctuates a great deal, and I can see it on a graph because I weigh myself daily on a Wii Fit board. But, I am not beating myself up or giving up, because I am definitely seeing results over time. I'm also "falling off the wagon" for holidays, but then I just wait until the next day and start over again eating healthy. Keeping a food diary is the greatest tool. You can do it!

Also, just looked at your food diary, and you're not eating enough. Your deficit is already built into your calorie budget, so your goal is to hit that number, not try to stay under it. Good luck with your journey :D

i dont know where you found a meatball sub for 269 calories, but i think everyone wants the number to that place................

a lot of problems stem from not knowing and not logging calories properly..............no idea what a "sammich" is, but i think you problem stems from not logging your food properly, or knowing what you are eating.

Please try eating more and drinking water. Your weight may go up when you do this before it stabilizes. Try walking 15-30 minutes each day. Try this for two months. Then you can have an honest baseline and healthy metabolism to start eating a calorie deficit and regular exercise.

If you give yourself this time, it will come together for you. This is a time of adjustment, change and education. It will get easier and easier as you learn more about what foods work for you and what portion sizes are good for you.

Take this slow path! It will help you ease into a lifestyle change instead of a diet. Six months from now, you will weigh less and feel stronger. One year from now, you may be at your goal and enjoying regular exercise.

Don't give up on your future! I started a year ago and while I'm not some amazing hardbody, I'm very happy, healthy and strong. Last Christmas I was hiding from the camera and deleting pictures. Not this year! You can do it too!
  • Hello Don, I also second what all the others said. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! (repeat as necessary) It is slow going at first and there will be setbacks, we're only human after all. There is tons of information out there, and lots of good feedback on this site, all with the intention of helping people. I don't know much, but I do try (as time and budget allow) to work in different things I've read on here to help me on my personal journey to being healthy. I guess the point is to read and learn what works best for you. That being said, I am from Wisconsin, home of the REAL AMERICAS TEAM, so GO PACKERS!!!!!! I do hope it's a good game tomorrow, but the Bears are going to lose.

Dont be so discouraged already. I have been at it since March 8, 2011 and only have lost 28 lbs. When you figure the average weight loss with gains and losses I have had, it is only 0.7 lbs a week loss. In other words, give it time. You will have hills and valleys. Anyone can add me as a friend. Check out my story. You will find that giving up is NOT an option. I hope its not an option for you either.

Hi Don, I've read your food diary and have to say that you are neither eating enough or eating healthy and it is no surprise you are gaining weight! Eating 800 calories and washing it down with a diet coke doesn't equate to eating healthy, you are going to have no energy to do anything! But please do not get discouraged, you can do this and there is lots of help out there to assist you on your journey!

-this. you have limited fruits and veggies and sometimes are not even meeting the min of 1200 a day! I do not know how you are not eating more! I would be starving! Also try to work out- even a 15 min walk at a slow pace is better then nothing.

I have to wonder if you are being truthful with your calories actually. I'm at 1200 calories, and I eat a lot more than you, and you are supposed to be eating more than me. I would say that if you were actually eating that you would lose. I didn't work-out yesterday and I lost .2. Someone commented about the meatball sub. I tend to agree as I even made my own meatball sub, and still it like 600 calories I think, and that's only for a 6 inch sub. And I don't drink soda, so I wouldn't know but how does a soda have o of anything. That doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but lots of sugar in it has to add to something. I would first suggest to take soda out of your diet. It's not good for you. Sure, do I have a soda every once in a great while sure, but my body now is not used to it so it actually upsets my stomach now. Drink water or natural juices that are 100% juice.

And about exercise diet and exercise work hand in hand. One won't work without the other. Walk around the block and then 2X around the block tomorrow. It's about a life-change. We are here to support you and to help you!!

I've been reading a lot that weight loss is really about 80% diet. If you're not eating enough and not fueling your body properly with nutritious food, you're going to have problems in the long run. Read through the many great threads here, especially the stickies, to educate yourself. The other 20% is your work-outs. I don't know what, if anything, you're doing now but you need to start with something, even just some walking, and then add in more intense stuff later as you get in shape.

And don't worry about a splurge which can be either eating something you shouldn't or missing a workout. As long as you're doing the right thing about 90% of the time, 10% off plan can be a good thing to help keep you on track. In other words, a planned splurge and rest day are good for you.

Also, you have lost 4# in two weeks. 2# a week is really the most you should be losing but that is only for people who are more obese. As people get closer to their goal weight, they should be shooting for 1.5, 1, or 0.5 pound weekly losses.

Last tip...lose the scale. Or put it in a closet and only bring it out once in awhile. Many on here only weigh once a week. Personally, I only weigh about once a month as I am prone to letting the silly number it says affect my mood. We all fluctuate so the scale isn't the best measurement anyway. Better to have a pair of thin jeans to be shooting to get into or taking your measurements.

Yes there is such a thing as not eating enough, but it is unlikely both in the time you have been here and the amount of weight you have to lose that such is the case with you.

First, realize weight goes up and down. That large loss you had the first week was likely some fat, but mostly water weight. Thus either no loss at all the second week or even a small gain (1.6 pounds would qualify as a small gain) are not that unusual. Keep at it and you will find more weight comes off.

Second, realize your calorie amount here is a goal to reach, not a limit you need to stay way under. MFP figures your calorie deficit into the recommended calories for the day, and you want to maintain that moderate deficit. The goal in weight loss is not to have a huge deficit, which is why MFP has you eating the calories you burn when you exercise.

Third, don't neglect fats. Your body needs them. Fat will not make you fat, too many calories will.

Wait another week and if you keep to your calorie goal you will find more weight will come off.

1200 calories a day is for a female, not a male. 1500 net is the minimum generally recognize for a male.

Having said that, he has only been at this two weeks, and unless he is very tall it obese. His body can handle a large deficit for now although a much more maintainable deficit of 1 pound per week would still be preferable.
  • I'm dealing with the same thing. It's frustrating as hell but it will pass.

It's super early in your journey & it's just a 1.6 lbs gain...No reason to give up at all.
  • when i get serious in the next few weeks i may not lose anything and my husband will say the scale doesn't matter how do your clothes fit? muscle weighs more than fat and when i am exercising and eating right i trim up before i see any scale difference weird i know also some of these posts are right you didn't put the weight on overnight you can't expect it to come off over night....Don't get discouraged every day is a new day!

My weight fluctuates a lot, depending on a variety of factors such as carb intake, sodium intake, how much exercise I have done the day before, how much sleep I got, time of month etc. It is normal. If you can, weigh yourself once every 4 to 6 weeks. That will give you a better picture of how much progress you have made.

Don, I also noticed that you only ate 61g of protein yesterday. I think that may not be enough. I do not know how much you weigh now, so I cannot suggest how much protein you should be getting. But you need to do some research and find out how much is needed for your age and body weight. I am a 27 year old girl, and my dietician recommended I eat 100-140g of protein a day. Next to that, you 61g seems a bit too low.
