Sudden weight gain on Christmas Day. Why?

How can one put on 1.9 Ks in one day? Do you think it was the second helping of prawns, the pile of turkey and ham, the cranberry sauce and two potatoes and the blue cheese in the cauliflower and broccoli bake, or the half bowl of M&Ms, peanuts and pecans, or the one and a half serve of pudding with brandied cream and white sauce or the second helping of rocky road ice cream, or the chocolate, the apple cider, the almond bread or the cheese, ham and cranberry sandwich for supper? One of them must have done it but I am not sure which.:ohwell:

Ah well. Back to rolled oats, hard boiled eggs and tuna salad.

Maybe a twenty mile hike will help.

Some fat put on, lots of water retained, and the food slowly making its way through your digestive system. In a couple of days with a lot of water consumed and some good bowel movements and you will see most of it gone.

Well that's good. Thanks. Someone on Facebook suggested I was just big boned. Didn't help.

Yep. You got it. I have found in the past that a free day like Christmas is fine as long as it doesn't turn into a free week or two of leftovers. I can put on 4 or 5 Kgs between Dec 25 and end of Jan and then I maintain it and build up to fat boy stage again.

could be the sodium in all of the different foods, don't worry about it to much, get on the scale next week.
  • Not easy this time of year. Does a lot of water really help? I'm having a hard time getting in 8 glasses. But after having ham today, it's been easy to drink more. :)

Yeah, as long as you're back on track tomorrow, you'll notice that almost all if not all of that gain will be gone.

Do you have any idea how much sodium is in the ham?
Yeeep... you will be retaining a LOT of water atm.
  • See this is why you shouldn't weigh in at the end of the day. Seriously. Try again tomorrow morning first thing and you should see a difference. I mean, really, why would you even weigh yourself at the end of the day after eating like that? You're just setting yourself up for disappointment. I ate a lot today (not as much as last Christmas, mind you), but I indulged. I enjoyed it. And I'm not going to stress about it. Tomorrow is a new day.

Yes, water helps a lot as it is what your body uses to process out the sodium through your kidneys. However, it does not have to be pure water. A little lemon and stevia or some other non- caloric flavouring would be fine to get it down.

I think it was the ice cream that did it. To find out, go and eat another bowl or two and weigh yourself and see if you gained!! ;) Well....I hate for you to have to test my theory so I think I'll go and test it for myself.....!!! Ice cream..here I come!!!

I know the extra gain I have on the scale today is because I allowed myself to enjoy one big hunka freshly cooked prime rib and patron XO cafe for dessert!

I've learned that the Holidays are not the best diet days. Just enjoy yourself and being with your family and start fresh tomorrow! :)

Unless you ate 14000 calories over maintenance you wouldn't have gained 1.9kg in one day :)

A prawn is a shrimp. You may remember Paul Hogan's Australian tourism promotions about 20 years ago where he said he would toss another shrimp on the barbie. The powers that be had to interpret that for us Aussies cos we didn't know what shrimp were! And we would have said, "I'll chuck another prawn on the barbie."
