Recipe search
I'm sure this has been posted before at some point but I couldn't see anything I was after from doing a search. I would like to know if anyone has any recipes they would recommend for bulk cooking and freezing. I'm looking for some nice filling, high protein, low fat ideas I can take for lunch once back at work, rather than a salad or a poxy tin of processed soup because frankly soup leaves me wanting to eat my own arms by home time and leaves me open to bad food choices that are quick to do for my evening meal.

You know... the great thing about soup is it's low calorie... the bad thing about soup is.. it's low calorie and easy to digest, which leaves you wanting more in no time flat. For me, I love soup. But I had to find the right combo during the day to keep me from eating a whole bag of cookies when I was preparing dinner. Here's what I do. I eat 5 times a day. 200-400 calories at a time, trying to be evenly spaced. Many days my afternoon snack is my savior. I always have a protein with my snacks.. string cheese with whole grain crackers, nut butter with fruit, yogurt with granola and toasted nuts, a hard boiled egg, ect.
Also, take a look at the soup you are eating. Fill it up with veggies, lean meats and whole grains ( barley, brown rice) and it will last you a lot longer.

Actually, soup is an idea, it freezes and microwaves. The thing to do would be to bulk the soup with vegetables, and try to aim for more calories and protein, to stop you feeling hungry.
Interestingly, experiments have shown that taking identical meals, but blending one with water into a soup, the soup stays in the stomach longer and has lasting satiety due to the long process of the stomach extracting the water from the suspension.0 -

Chili and spaghetti sauce are faves for the freezer around here, then we freeze it in individual serving sizes, I try to cook a spaghetti squash extra when we have spaghetti so there is extra to go with the sauce but if you do pasta, bingo, cook a bit up and take a pack of spaghetti sauce.0

I watched a programme on that, they gave army cadets the same meal in two groups. One group drank the water with their meal the other the water was in their meal. They then scanned their stomaches every hour or something and the one with the water in the meal had fuller stomaches for longer.
@ chefbrina, I already eat 4-5 times a day and try to get protien in my snacks via nuts and cheeses etc. This is an area I need to work on though.
I need to find some bulky soup ideas. I love a good broth so I'll start there I think. Thanks guys.0 -
