Weight loss is not a one size fits all approach..

I have been a member of MFP, for over a year and a half and I have lost weight...It really is a great site and I have met some awesome people...what I don't understand is why people attack on the message boards..Unless someone is involved in destructive behavior, it is not for us to judge. What works for me, may not be reasonable for someone else and vice versa. We don't always know what someone has been thru, where they've come from. We didn't all gain weight the same way..some people are over eaters, others have medical conditions, we just don't know...

So true, I don't know your situation and you don't know mine. I can't be an expert in in what you are doing unless I followed you from day 1 and watched your every move from then. It doesn't make sense to tell someone "you are doing it wrong or that's not right" unless they ask for ADVICE or what they are doing might be hurting themselves. All we can and should do is offer our successes.0

I've taken a slightly left-field approach and it works for me. It probably wouldn't work for everybody and likewise I don't expect that other's approaches to weight-loss would work for me.
We're all unique, we're all freaks, we're all brilliantly amazing in our own way.0 -
I cant tell you how many times Ive run into people on MFP's boards who are so damn quick to judge and lay blame, accuse, you name it!!!!
Ive been asked about what Im focusing on for weight-loss, and I just tell them that Im under two physicians' care because I have complex issues going on... when they ask me what exactly Im doing.. I tell them the truth - "its an individual plan because the problems Im going through are more severe than someone else who has what I have..."
They get pissed when I share what the recommended course of action with them.
They get pissed when I DONT share what the recommended course of action is with them.
And thats just a FRACTION of the garbage that goes on with MFP boards in general!!!!
And because it gets worse and worse, I went ahead and updated my profile with all the information about me, why Im here, what my focus is, and if people consider me for a friend-invite, they need to be perfectly fine with what Im expecting otherwise, Ill just stick to the people on my friend's list who have 100% supported my beliefs without giving me any problems...0 -
I agree. Everyone has different eating habits, ways of exercising, etc. I don't feel it's necessarily the best thing though to attack someone if you feel they're doing something you don't approve of. I've been attacked because of my eating habits and eating disorder, and people can be flat out rude. People should be there to support you in recovery, not make you feel down.0

I still love your profile picture by the way! Always brings a smile to my face!0 -
As a person who had an eating disorder in the past, and now suffering with infertility..my history is different..but everyone has a story..I'm under the care of a doctor and a personal trainer..it's working for me..
Nice to see I'm not the only one who feels like this0 -

LOVE THIS. This is exactly what I've tried to say to *certain* people who like to attack how people eat, albeit they're eating healthy, carbs or not. You know who you are.0 -
Well said! I have never understood why people feel the need to cut each other down on here. I don't care what the question is, there is a way to answer it without putting someone else down.0

Okay you have said what I have wanted to for a while. There are some basics that may abpply to us all but wt loss is a very individual approach! Heck, it even changes for the same person as health changes and age increases...So folk be kind and compassionate. We all have different skill levels too!0

Great timing!
I just replied to a thread where the OP was mentioning she was looking for suggestions on her eating raw cookie dough-overload... many suggested chew gum, fill up on water, take two teaspoons and reserve for later, have veggies available if she gets the urge... REAL good suggestions.. and then.... this one person felt compelled to say "I seriously think its stupid of people suggesting eat gum and drink water"....
Well, I seriously thought SHE was stupid for ragging on people who were giving really genuine and thoughtful ideas to help the OP... ***sigh... she must have not been able to have cookie dough and felt the need to act out her aggression, I dont know!? LOL!0 -
I saw a post the other day that said all this dieting is making us cranky have a piece of chocolate cake! With a pic of tasty looking cake. I don't think chocolate cake is the answer, but I agree that rudeness is a HUGE issue.0

I agree. People make comments about my food diary and honestly I don't care but I do think it is rude. I eat the foods I like to eat, I focus on what I want to focus on and just because I am not eating what others eat to loose weight doesn't mean it doesn't work for me.
I don't have a problem with food and food is not the reason I am overweight--health conditions and medications with side effects of weight gain are. When you can gain over 30lbs in less than 3 months it tends to cause problems. For 7 years I could not workout but this past Oct I finally found "MY" miracle that allowed me to come off ALL medications and took away my pain so I could workout and loose weight.
We all have different reasons and even I have to bite my tounge (sometimes I can't) when I see people starving themselves on my MFP friends list but it is not my place to tell them what to do or what not to do (unless they ask), they have to figure it out and it is not their place to tell me I eat bad foods or eat less becuase I am loosing weight "MY" way and obviously it is working!!.0 -
Well said! I've maintained all along that weight loss is a balancing act and what works for me may not work for someone else. I truly believe that and no one is going to convince me otherwise:)0

Love this thread. I normally don't even get on the boards because of people biting off someones head over little things.0
