I needed a goal. I have lost 49lbs so far, but needed a challenge. So I entered a triathlon in August. I have almost 8 months to train. Yeah, crazy! I need to lose another 60 pounds by then. But I am going to do it!!!!
Day 3 workout complete. Increased my ski machine time to 40 minutes from 30 minutes. I have until April first to build a cardio base fitness before I need to start working on the actual events. So in the next 3 months I will be trying to lose 60 pounds and gain some muscle at the same time. So easy to do at 41 years old... At least I still have the incredible looks to fall back on!

I read a really great, funny book called The Slow, Fat Triathlete that you might enjoy. It talks about how it works, how to prepare, how to go forward even if you are not a svelt, supreme athlete. Great read.0

that is AWESOME!!!!!! Are you currently running? I suggest the c25k....though that may not be enough for the actual triathalon....maybe the bridge to 10k program.0

I think thats really cool. You might need a personal trainer to make sure you really achieve your goals. but good luck!0

that is great man!! i signed up for a sprint triathlon in june myself. it is a great goal, and having a fixed date to be prepared for is an excellent goal. you have more then enough time to be ready.
get this book if you haven't already read it. http://www.amazon.com/Your-First-Triathlon-Joe-Friel/dp/1931382859 really helped me out. also, check out beginnertri.com to get some great information on training and couch-to-sprint-tri
you said that you want to build your base fitness to be able to prepare yourself. i say that is a bunch of baloney! i think you should start jumping on the bike. just get the time in the saddle. i was riding my bike a lot, and dropping weight like crazy while building my cardio strength. then one day i just started running, a mile or two at a time, working on distance and speed.0 -
Good for you!!! I am sending you a friend request. I can use more people like you in my life!0

Thanks everyone!
I have a really great coach who does Iron Man events, so that helps! And a really great doctor. I am saving up to get a decent bike, mine is destroyed. So, that is part of the reason I am not biking right now.
Other than that, it is full speed ahead!0 -
what a great motivator! good luck!
p.s. your profile pic is awesome!!! lol0 -
Good for you! I think I might like to try that. I can run and bike alright, although not at competitive speeds, but I have never done any distance swimming. Might have to put the new pool to use when it warms up!0

I made that picture as a joke and have had so many people say they love it. I think it is a hoot myself!0

Awesome!! Be sure to feed your body the proper fuel!
It will make all the difference.

I took the decision 1 month ago I would run amateur 20K in May, and a marathon in September if the first event is ok. I can now run for two hours at the pace I could initially not keep for 10min. I also train home biking and will go back to swiming pool in January as my ultimate goal is to be abble to make olympic tri afterwards. My issues are: I can breakstroke for hours but crawl for 20min only and I have no bike.
I read a couple of days ago how a woman started training at 55 and finished Ironman first of her age group at...71!!!0 -
Super cool --- I am training to run my first Marathon in April... it really does help to have a goal and accountability.0

Congratulations..
What a wonderful goal to set..
I look forward to watching your progress.0 -
Today was Day 4 of my workouts. I am happy to discover I can go 45 minutes on my ski machine at a reasonable pace. My plan is to work up to 1 hour on the ski machine in the next 2 weeks. Then add another cardio type exercise. I will also be doing some upper body weight training. Going to go easy on lifting lower body since this is still a big shock to my fat little body.
So far, I am exceeding my initial goals. I am going to push on for a while to see where the limits are, but I don't want to go so fast that I injure myself. It is difficult to find that balance. I have already noticed that one ankle is not happy. Not muscular, feels like bone on bone, so I added a glucosomine supplement. It seems to be helping a little already.0 -
Yes, be carefull to listen properly to your body. I sometimes change my rest day if I have such little inconveniences (it is below pain) or go for a swim or, in your case, would go for upper body weight lifting. Sometimes I simply go over it because I know it will desappear during my warm up. It is impossible for me to stick to a plan (also because of the unpredictable weather in Belgium)0
