DH says not to worry about how much it costs to have duodenal switch..so I might have it done after all. It's so hard to decide if I do or don't want surgery. There are always risks.

There are the normal risks of surgery involved. I had gastric bypass Feb. 07, 2011. I have never regretted it.

My best friend had bypass done in 2011 too. She looks great. At Christmas dinner gathering everyone said she looked so good. She said the same thing, she has not regretted it.

I have done research and flipped back and forth on if I want surgery to help me get over the bump. The only thing stopping me is $$$$$$. DH told me not to worry about it, if I really want to he will support me and find a way to pay the bills for it.

I really really really want to..

Dad always told me "If in doubt, don't." You have lost 28 lbs, so you've done great so far! Just my 2 cents worth. But, whatever you decide, I truly wish you the best. :flowerforyou:

As Carnie Wilson has demonstrated, these procedures are no guarantee of continued success over time. Follow-up studies are far and few between, going beyond 5 years. Also, the duodenal switch cuts absorption of many vital nutrients, which may make you dependent upon close medical supervision for the rest of your days. It's a lot to think about.

I had the Duodenal Switch procedure which is the most aggressive form of gastric bypass ten years ago. I had gotten up to 400 pounds and had severe sleep apnea and worked full time as a Registered Nurse. I did EXTENSIVE research and this was the best option for ME. I had it done at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles. I have been very pleased with the outcome I lost 200 pounds and have reversed the sleep apnea. My only regret is that I had not done it sooner :)

I do have to take daily multivitamins, calcium and iron. Make sure I have adequate protein intake of at least 100 grams as I do not absorb all the protein and fat that I take in ALTHOUGH I do absorb 100 percent of Sugar and Carbs therefore you must still limit your carb intake so that you do not regain your weight.

I agree it is definitely a big decision and one that should not be taken lightly. Feel free to contact me with questions.
