So I got a Heart Rate Monitor for Christmas, happy about it........buuuuuut I have no clue how to work it. Instructions are not very clear at least I think so. And all I wanna do is know how many calories I have burned during my workout. Soooooo frustrating can anyone help? If not I think I will jus take it back.
Its a Sportline SX Universal Combo with Chest Belt.
Any help would be appreciated as I would love to keep it.
Thanks in advance.

When I use my HRM, I wrap the chest belt around my head like a bandanna. That way, I can also burn my brain wave calories.0

I got one for Christmas too, I'm trying to figure out how to convert my heart rate into calories burned. Lots of math involved...yay! :frown:0

The chest strap should be positioned below your breast and it should be snug but not to tight ...I get a bit frustrated with mine because after you start sweating it moves and loses contact so I have to readjust it ...also when you put it on you should wet the contact sensore on the the chest strap with some water just dab a little on...hope it helps!0

If your monitor has you input age, weight, and sex, it will reasonably calculate your calories for you.
If it includes you ability to input max heart rate (if known), or resting heart rate (measured each morning), it will be more accurate.
If basic HRM, and it at least gives you avg over the course of a workout, you can enter the data here. This is what Polar has in a patent for their HRM's, or at least did at some point.

Got a model number that matches Sportline's site? That description isn't exact enough it appears.

But from glancing through some of the manuals, you do have to enter a bit of info if you want accuracy.
Kind of like jumping on exercise equipment and doing manual mode, compared to entering the info requested. Default values may be way off for you in default mode.0 -
I was looking for the manual but had little success on the Sportline website since they reorganized it. On my Sportline to set up your information you press and hold the mode button until the second number starts to flash. Then you adjust the numbers up and down with the ST/STP (up) and RESET (down) You cycle from number to number by pressing the MODE button. After going through the time and date you will come to your personal settings like age, heights, and weight. Once you have set them all and are brought back to setting the time, press and hold the MODE button until it exits from changing your settings (the numbers no longer flash) now you can use your HRM.
To use it put on your chest strap. Press the mode button once and it will look like you have come to a stop watch. There will be two dashes on the screen which will flash as your watch and chest strap start communicating. Then a number will come up there. That is your HR from the chest strap. Just a note, you don't want something electronic need your HRM watch as it will interfere with the signal giving a HR up in the 200s. A similar thing will happen if your chest strap is not reading your HR correctly. Usually wetting the sensors on it with water will help with the connection until you work up enough perspiration.
Start the timer with the ST/STP button. To stop it press and hold it for a while. You HRM will keep counting calories even when timer is stopped so don't take too long to write them down. To get to the other information press the RESET button to cycle through the various screens of the calorie counter. When you are done and have recorded your calories burned take off the chest strap and press and hold the reset button. It should reset everything to zero. If it doesn't it means you timer is still running. Press the mode button repeatedly until you get back to the watch display.
I hope yours is similar to my Sportline as that is all I have to go on.0 -
