Do you remember when
Gas was .50/gallon.
A stamp was .08.
You had a choice between leaded and unleaded.
A telephone actually had a ringer.
A washing machine did too but spelled differently.
TVs had tubes in them, with VHF and UHF dials.
A computer was in a sci fi movie or something NASA used.
The raciest thing on TV was Charlies Angels.
A calculator was a novelty and not allowed in math class.
Remote meant a secluded, far away place.
People had pen pals.
Air conditioning,an AM radio and a clock were fancy options in a car.
Every now and then the car needed a new set of points and a condenser.
Another year almost past as we all get older. :drinker:

I'm a little younger, but I do remember the days (not so long ago) when riding your bike outside was the best thing for playtime. Now its video games, ipads, touch screen everything. We were lucky to have a light bright when I was a kid! lol. Now I see toddlers with their own ipods/phones!0

jeez how old are ya? some of those things our grandmas wouldnt even remember! just kidding!!
do you remember music before auto tune? 0 -
Sadly, yes, yes I do. I even used a washer with a wringer when I was a young teen. Telephones were party lines (kind of like a conference call) every time you made a call cause the neighbors listened whether you liked it or not. An air conditioner in a car? Only the rich doctors and lawyers in town had them. Do you remember when the Fuller Brush and Jewel Tea man came to your door and sold products to your mom?0

Out on my grandparent's ranch they have a gas pump that has it marked at $.32 a gallon & it is an old Texaco pump.
So, guess where I get my gas.

I am not getting it. Since I'm obviously older than dirt, can I claim senility as the cause? :laugh:0 -

No need to be pretty, either, if you can afford the right surgeons and have the right connections.0 -

When I first started driving, there WASN'T any unleaded. You had a choice between leaded and unleaded.
Although I was a real little one, I do vaguely remember my mom's washing machine had a wringer.A telephone actually had a ringer.
A washing machine did too but spelled differently.
Again, I pre-date UHF.TVs had tubes in them, with VHF and UHF dials.
The sci-fi movies I watched in the '50s didn't even HAVE computers - they either used 'calculating machines' or slide rules.A computer was in a sci fi movie or something NASA used.
WHAT calculators? You either used your brains - or slide rules if you were in trig/calculus.A calculator was a novelty and not allowed in math class.
I predate A/C - if you wanted to cool off in the car, you had to have a portable swamp cooler attached to the passenger window!Air conditioning,an AM radio and a clock were fancy options in a car.
Yep - new plugs and cables every 25k miles; points and condenser every 50-75k. A normal part of keeping your car running.Every now and then the car needed a new set of points and a condenser.0 -
I remember when I would go out with friends and not get in touch with my parents until I came home.
I remember pay phones, so hard to find one now-a-days.
I remember when it was only .25 cents for a bottle of pop.
I remember playing music on a record player.
Oh the good ol' days, ha ha.0 -

I remember everything but the washer... And in Charlies Angels if one of them drank a soda the can was marked "SODA". There was no product names on them. Every movie in a theater was a double feature and it only cost 50 cents.0

There were 3 networks on TV and a couple public stations. (no such thing as a remote) Dad decided what we watched.
You could buy a new car for under $2,000.
You could buy a house for under $15,000.
Minimum wage was $1.65.
Population: 204,879,000
Unemployed in 1970: 4,088,000
National Debt: $382 billion
Average salary: $7,564
Food prices: milk, 33 cents a qt.;
bread, 24 cents a loaf;
round steak, $1.30 a pound
Life Expectancy: Male, 67.1; Female, 74.80 -
Okay, when I was a kid a couple of people had washing machines with wringers in their garages but no one actually used them. Some of my friends had grandmothers that used them though.0
-
We didn't have a phone at all till I was about ten so had never used one or really even seen one; then, it was the party line.
Sodas were 15 cents at school and candy was ten cents so that quarter that was left over on Friday's after paying the lunch bill would buy one soda and one candy at school. The popular thing was to buy a bag of peanuts and a Sprite (in glass bottles, of course) and to pour the peanuts into the bottle and drink it. Ummmmmmmmm!!!0
