                    I want to really research nutrition.  I want to really understand portions for my whole family, the right amount of each kind of food they need, etc.  I have a good idea what that is and I know a lot of you do as well but I want to learn for myself.  Problem is I can look up nutrition and not really know if the books or websites Im reading are accurate. I dont want a diet fad I want simplistic but true information.  If any of you can direct me to these books or websites I would appreciate it greatly.

            My mom has a fantastic book called something like God Made Food vs. Man Made Food. It's excellent. My dad who is not a huge health fanatic read it and now is on track to eating healthier without my mom having to nag him!0

            It's taken me 10 years to get to where I'm now understanding nutrition. I recommend you start with a subject or two that interests you and research them to death, for me it was cholesterol and fats in general that got me interested.....eventually you'll understand what is good science and bad. Unfortunately there's just so much junk science, bro-sicence, misinformation and down right lies that it really is up to the individual to find and overcome naturally through due diligence and common sense. imo0

There really aren't many "truths" these days when it comes to nutrition. And I'm not sure if you're asking about nutrition in terms of how much to eat and what to eat to fit into your macros every day, or if you're looking for something from a overall health perspective.0 -

I've probably read up to 5 or 6 dozen books during my weight loss journey so far, but I really liked Dr. Catherine Shanahan's (MD) "Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food" (her blog is drcate.com to see samples of her ability to translate complex medical stuff into intelligent layperson prose).0 - 
            I would recommend looking to see if you have a local college or university with a nutrition program and take some classes. If that's not feasible, the books that I've enjoyed most and felt I got the most out of from my classes (I just finished my bachelors in exercise physiology and minor in nutrition) are:
Melvin Williams book Nutrition for Health, Fitness, and Sport

Im looking for overall health. Im not lookiing for a fad or a diet or the governments regulated thoughts. I want to know what bodies thrive on how much a real portion is etc. I want a well rounded healthy real diet. nothing to do with weight loss just being truly healthy.and thats where Im at.
