I have found out that I have a cyst in one of my ovaries. I was wondering if anyone one here has been through this and the biopsy experience. My doctor told me it would be a needle biopsy and she would only use local anesthetic also, that I would be able to drive home afterword????? Just wanting some input from people who have been through this. Thanks!!

I think my mom had one. I'm not sure of anything about it, but I wish you the best of luck!

Haven't been through it but what kind of cyst is it? Every woman has a cyst each month that they ovulate.. I assume they're thinking it might be a dermoid or some other errant cyst?

I haven't had a needle biopsy on an ovary, but I have had a needle biopsy.

It doesn't really hurt, it's more pressure.

never heard that before, could you elaborate? I'm intrigued.
  • I am having a liver biopsy next week and I was told I couldn't drive home. They use anesthesia. Not sure what is all involved though. Good luck!

I had a cyst on my ovary, but unfortunately didn't catch it before it got so large that I had to have it surgically removed. I also lost an ovary in that surgery. Luckily, it was benign, but now I get yearly ultrasounds to check for cysts on the other ovary. Better safe than sorry!
  • It is an endometrioma and Thanks for all the good wishes!!

I have one right now but mine luckily is only fluid filled so I don't have to have a biopsy but my husband and I are doing infertility treatments to try to get pregnant and if the cyst is not gone or hasn't at least gotten significantly smaller (it was 6.5 cm!) I might have to have surgery to have it removed. Sorry i couldn't be more help with information on what to expect but I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Hope all goes well!

it is not as painful as it sounds.

the worst that will happen is you'll fell crampy as if you just started your period.

it's not the worst feeling ever, but it is uncomfortable.

    ibuprofen or Advil definitely helps.

    good luck.

I've never had a biopsy on an ovary but I did have fluid drawn from my hip joint with a large needle. They used a local and I was able to get right up and drive home. It was on my right hip and I wasn't numb or clumsy and drove home just fine.

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you!
  • I had the same test did 3months ago a little pressure you'll be fine..
