Hi I started running outside last winter and was totally put off when I caught the flu but I really need to start running again as I do enjoy it when I get passed the stage of running more than 5 minutes. :) How do you keep yourself warm but not overheat when you start running when its raining

I wear layers of Under Armor or other "wicking" types of fabric along with winter (thick) compression spandex. Dress as if it's 15 degrees warmer when you're running. You'll warm up as you start running.

If you are sensitive to the cold, like I can be at times, it is a bit of an art. :-)
Layer up with hat/gloves and wind shield top with vents
Is ok to feel a bit fresh to start with but after 5 min you should be ok
Than once you are "warmed up" (and that is individual) about 10-20 min you can open up zips, vents, remove hat (or a buff/ear warmer) to maintain comfort.

This works if you do walk run as well (when first getting in to running), as your temperature will go up and down etc...

As suggested a good wicking base layer is a good investment

    Best of luck!

I warm up in the house with star jumps whilst i wait for my sat nav to locate me, then i just go out and run. I have some really good breathable gear, that keeps you warm when its cold, but breathes when your warmed up, this is all i need.

That said, im in England. We dont know real cold....

If you're warm before you run, then you're overdressed.
