Newbie: Where to start??

Hey, So my bff and I have decided to take a trip together to Cuba in late June. So immediately I started looking at fitness/weight loss websites for help in acquiring a bikini body I can flaunt off!
I was going to start the whole healthy lifestyle as my New Years resolution...but since we planned our vacation today, I really want to start asap! Like now!

I'm hoping to lose 15, maybe 20 pounds. I am "skinny fat" I look medium-sized, but in a bathing suit...oh dear.. Thankfully, I have almost 6 months.

Now, where to start? I have never really took food seriously, I typically just eat whatever, whenever. And it hasn't been a big deal because my weight never really increased, but my thighs and stomach (and flabby arms) are not my best features!

I'm considering doing intermittent fasting, maybe 2 or 3 times a week from midnight ->3pm.

Any advice/suggestions. All the info I am reading is so overwhelming! So much info is out there, many contradictions, many scams. Where to begin!

p.s I'm giving up my love, chocolate... and as much refined sugar as possible.

  • if you are skinny fat then the best thing you could probably do is to strength train to change your body's composition. read around- there are many threads to learn from all over this site.
    good luck! :)

You've never really taken food seriously? This is where your mentality needs to change! Food is simply fuel for our bodies. For whatever reason it has become more about family, fun and celebration... but really it's simply a way to keep our bodies moving. Start watching what you're putting in your body, when you're doing it, and how much. Keep a HONEST food journal for a week and then review what you've eaten try and identify factors like stress eating, trigger foods and situations. From there, make healthier decisions. When you're presented with the opportunity to eat, ask yourself; "why am I eating this? How will I feel after eating this? Is this what the healthy me would want to eat?" When you treat yourself like your biggest cheering section you will realize you're accountable only to yourself.

This was the biggest hurdle for me. Being ok with eating anything because no one was there to slap me on the wrist and say, "put that doughnut down, you'll regret it in a half hour when you're hungry again."

Simply changing how you view food with do miracles for your attitude towards not only health but weight loss!
