Bikram Yoga

Had my first ever bikram yoga class today!! Not sure I really liked it. Got a major headache mid-class. But I have a groupon that gives me 9 more classes. So i guess i have to try again!! Maybe i didn't drink enough water beforehand. Has anyone tried bikram yoga? And what did you think? I think I prefer yoga flow styles much more!!

    Yes. I got a groupon too. I tried it, and fell in love. Its so relaxing to me. The sweating is like my body releasing all of the stressors and ill feelings accumalated for the week.

    Keep with it. The first time i did it, I got a headache and really nauseous. Now i just make sure i have something on my stomach before I go. Good luck.

    OMG I love love love Bikram. I am new at it also. I started with a 5 time Groupon and purchased a 30 day intro package.

    My first class was INSANELY hard. During the final savasana I cried and cried. I was so beat physically and emotionally. But something drew me back. I've been 9 times now and I look forward to each class. I find that it is bringing a calmness out of me - and I have NEVER been this flexible before - and only 9 classes in!

    from what you described, and what I read on line, you may have been pushing yourself a bit too hard? My first class I had to rest for 3-4 poses and just get used to the heat. Also Maybe you were a bit dehydrated? I may sure that I consume at least 50 ounces of water NO LATER then 90 minutes before class. So this means waking up extra early just to guzzle some mad water when I want to take an AM class.

    Try it a few more times before you make a decision. And don't wait too long before going again. Go tomorrow! Or the day after - but don't wait a week.

    Also, from what I am reading on line, don't think of it as a cardio workout. You still need to get cardio and weight training in.

    You might be right! I drank most of my water 30mins before the start of the class and I didn't have much! Reading now I really should have had a lot more and definitely will take your advice of no later than 90mins.

    I may have been pushing myself too hard but I'll give it another go! The next class I can make is next Monday so let's so how I feel then! I might grow on me in time! I just didn't get the instant love that I have had when I tried other styles! Ah well!!!

  • I felt that way after my first time too - drink LOTS of water, more than normal throughout the day leading up to the class, take your time, move slowly so you don't get headrushes that bring on headaches. I've also found if I go in the room early and let my body acclimate to the heat before class I feel much better after rather than going in "cold" and starting the poses.
  • Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. I went on a free pass given to me from a friend. I haven't been able to get back in because all the classes are full.

    i have a groupon for there as well! 10 classes
    omg.. i tried it for the first time yesterday also! i loved it!.. i didn't like that the instructor speaks like she is auctioning! hahahaha
