Help! I work in a Bakery!

I've read repeatedly that the best way to avoid temptation is to avoid tempting things... and in my daily life for the most part I can do that. I just don't buy junk food and I avoid the aisles/stores where it is sold. It works great. But I can't avoid my job and the constant sampling... it drives me crazy how quickly it can go from "nah i don't need that" to eating 500 calories worth of just samples... and then throwing the rest of my day away along with it. I know you guys aren't magicians lol but any tips you could give me to avoid caving in to the constant presence of junk food would be greatly appreciated!

That is realy tough! I couldn't do it. The way I avoid junk food when I am presented with it is I make sure I eat a filling breakfast or whatever meal is before it and then I am full and can say "Oh, I am too full to eat any more". Sometimes when I go to somebody's house and they have pizza or something I will eat before I go so that I don't feel like I absolutely need a slice. Can you bring fruit to work and eat it on break? Maybe you won't feel so tempted if you can keep eating healthier items.0

Fill up on water and chew gum. If you have gum in your mouth you can't throw that sample in!0

i agree with the gum thing. make it minty. no one likes to have a mix the tastes of a sweet treat with some intense minty gum already in their mouth.0

Those new dessert delight gums are awesome for that0

I'm the same. I work in a coffee shop/cafe . All day long I bake scones, muffins, cookies, cakes, brownies--and that's not even touching the quesadillas and melty sandwiches we serve.
I try to drink water while on the go. I binged on cookie dough while doing a catering order, and it put me off cookies for a month. I couldn't even look at the things. I burn my tastebuds out on breath mints. I gargle mouthwash before heading to work. I also try to eat an actual meal at work if I can so I'm not as hungry.
Alas. I have a terrible time turning down the flavored lattes and leftover hot chocolate in the pail. There's also German Baptist high-butterfat creamery icecream in tubs always available.
Every day is a struggle not to give in to temptation. Keep going! Just keep going!0 -
Can you wear a mask or muzzle? Ball gag?0

haha glad to know someone else is going through this too. i expected making all that stuff would put me off it, but even knowing how much butter and sugar and other junk is in there doesn't stop me from wanting to eat it lol.
to everyone: thanks for the great advice- water+fruit sound like a good way to fill up my tummy and make me more likely to turn away from the sweets. not a big gum fan, but i will try mints... my mouth will taste too fresh to defile with all that sugar0 -
Not the same I suppose but if I have finished logging for the day and get tempted - I clean my teeth! The mint thing really helps so the minty gum idea is a plan...0
