Holy Moly!!!!

Just was calculating a sandwich on Jimmy John's website. Mayo kills it!!

Easily adds 200 calories to your sandwich.

I guess mayo is on the "no-go" list from now on! :grumble:

I'm thinking the same too, but I love mayo  . I wonder what people use as a substitute when trying to lessen their caloric intake? Anyone... Sandwiches are just dull without it.

Fat free mayo. I have no idea what it is made out of but, it is much lower calorie. And it tastes pretty good!

When I do use mayo I use the Kraft Mayo that is made from Olive Oil. It tastes great and I believe it's 45cals per serving. I also use maybe 1/2 of a serving. Just barely enough to get a taste of the mayo with the sandwich.

I switched to mustard. I know it's not a substitute but can't beat no calories and little sodium.

    I like Mayo too!!

SO, what I do for a lunch sandwich is I get a mustard packet (use all of it) and a mayo packet (I only use 1/2 of the packet).
Since it's with a light sandwich and my extras are a fruit and or veggies, I don't feel guilty about having some.
Also, half of a packet for me goes a long way and is a treat. I don't do well depriving myself of things I enjoy. I just use them in moderation.

I love mayo.. Only thing that makes a turkey sandwich good!

    Plans of action:
Tell them no mayo or mayo on the side, and put your own on.
Red Wine Vinegar, Oil and Spices.. Make a good mayo substitute I've found!

I love Miracle Whip light instead of mayo. It's 20 cal. for 1 T so it's not to bad but adds great flavor. I also use mustard, honey mustard and low sugar bbq sauce.

I like Hellman's/Best Foods light mayo. It's 35 cals per tbsp and has an easy to read ingredients list. They also make one that uses olive oil. I believe it is 45 cals per tbsp and also has a simple ingredients list.

I love mayo... I'll NEVER give it up. LOL

dzrogers: I like your thinking. Perhaps I will keep using it, but be mindful of how much I put on a sandwich.

I love kraft mayo with olive oil, it is lower calories and tastes really good!!!
1 tablespoon is only 45 calories and only 95 sodium :D try to limit how much you use too and that can help, also some good mustard, like dijon could help too :)

I love mayo! But I also love spicy brown mustard. Not too much of a loss if I have mustard.

I will have to check my grocery store to see about getting Laughing Cow garlic and herb as well. That sounds delicious!

At Jimmy John's I opt for the avocado spread. Much healthier option!!

If you truly want more of a calorie reduction, choose mustard.

You can also make a healthier version of your own mayo using something like avocado oil instead of canola oil.

I have never liked mayo, luckily... that stuff is gross lol
  • Jimmy John's does have light mayo in packets, you just have to ask. One mayo packet appears to be 30 calories when I enter it on here. I usually only use one :)

It's all about moderation. Log the mayo and move on. And don't cut it out for good. What is tuna without it?

I started using laughing cow wedges (various flavors) in place of mayo on my sandwiches(normally eat turkey) It replaces the mayo and is the cheese at the same time...all at only 35 calories a wedge! Try it!

    Sorry to digress...
But eating at Jimmy John's I would be far less worried about my mayo but to what my money was actually supporting...
    Like exotic game hunts?!

I dont like mayo but I've heard avocado gives a similar effect. Lots of oils but good ones.
  • I also just switched from Hellmans to Kraft light mayo with Olive oil.. I would rather have 2 tablespoons of that for a total 90 calories and have a yummy sandwhich that 180 calories worth of Hellmans.. and its really good.. I got the kraft cracked pepper with olive oil.. I could have gotten away with only 1 tablespoon too.. Next time I will try just one.. Hope this helps..
