Hungry after lifting

Hi.

Does anyone get this? I ate 3 whole eggs, 130g of broccoli, and 130g of carrots.
Normally, with that amount and 40 minutes of cardio afterward, I'll still feel full until noon.

But today, instead of cardio, I tried lifting. Immediately after workout, I felt hungry. >.> I wanted to save some calories for the big eating out dinner tonight with church friends and pastor, but I ended up chucking protein shake instead (2 scoops of ON + 10g of full cream milk powder).

Why is that so? Is it normal? Do we need a lot more protein on weights day? Or do we need more carbs on those days? I'm still trying to figure out the best meal combo for my workout routine so any tips and advises will be greatly appreciated.

I use the New Rules of Lifting for Women book, and two of the "rules" are that you must have more calories on a lifting day than a non-lifting day, and you must have a protein shake after lifting. So what you're feeling is perfectly normal!

My understanding is that both carbs and proteins are needed. Proteins are needed after resistance training so your muscles can repair and grow stronger Lifting is an anaerobic activity, so it uses up.the glycogen in your muscles and the sugar in your blood, leaving you HUNGRY.

People more into weight lifting than me could give you better advice, but you could likely just get by with a few carbs after your workout if you already have sufficient protein in your diet.

A protein shake after lifting is normal. It helps the recovery process and keeps you from wanting to chew a limb off before you get a chance to shower and fix something in a sensible state of mind.

Besides the good advice for eating that protein, when you do it can help too.
Wait too long, and you'll probably find that nothing seems to satisfy, or a whole lot more than you might think you should need. Blood sugar probably dipping making you real hungry, and it takes a bit to feel you ate enough.
But have that protein shake fast enough with a few carbs, and you may get by until the next meal not feeling empty.
