Been doing this for a couple of weeks-does it get easier?

Does it get easier trying to watch what you eat and doing the exercises? I am 30 years old with a 4 year old son, who is the joy of my life and my greatest accomplishment. I do have a wonderful husband, but he is skinny as can be, and drives me insane with his no weight gain no matter what he eats. My name is Mary.

It does, because once your body starts changing, it feels too good to not keep going. Your taste buds change and sometimes eating "cleanly" isn't a chore. Just make sure your diet/fitness is in moderation. This isn't a quick fix, it's a lifestyle change. If your eating and exercise regimen is something you can't see yourself doing in future years, it's too strict. Take baby steps, and go from there. Good luck!!

The first couple of weeks were really hard for me. I was watching the clock, checking my calories, thinking about what and when I could eat! And even though I've always exercised, I'd been seriously slacking on effort, so that was something I had to focus on and make myself do as well. After that, though, it really did get easier…. not always "easy", but certainly easier. Now, in December, due to personal events as well as the holiday season, I gave myself the month "off" in that I was simply going to try to maintain my weight and not worry about losing. So, I kept exercising and logging, but if you look at my diary… well, its nothing to be proud of. :D I actually did lose a pound or two, though… tomorrow is weigh-in so I'll see what the net effect for the month actually was.

SOOOO, next week I expect to be a bit challenging as I really work on staying within my nutritional goals. My husband isn't helping either as he took the opportunity to pretty much completely fall off the wagon… which is why my diary looks kind of crappy, too. He knows I just have no willpower when he brings my favorites (like blueberry turnovers) into the house! So, I think next week is going to be shocking for him, too. ;0)

Hang in there! When you try on a pair of jeans to find out they are now too big… or try on a pair to find they fit again… it's TOTALLY awesome. :flowerforyou:

Once you start seeing the pounds come off it's even more motivation! Good luck to you! You can do it
  • Hi Mary and yes it gets easier just hang in there!!!!:)) BTW my hubby is the same way he doesn't gain any weight let me look at some cake I gain weight lol...
  • You can do it! It does get easier. I don't have a child yet but my dog and I have gotten into a routine of getting up in the mornings and going for a half mile walk. I remember working out with my mom when I was little, maybe your son would want to be active with you and that might help with the activity increase.
I feel ya with your sig. other being skinny. It's the same in my house, he eats whatever, whenever and somehow loses weight.
You can do it and just keep reminding yourself what motivated you in the first place.

It does get easier. But you have to realize you just went though the toughest two weeks of the year. Hang in there.

It was hard for me until I stayed dedicated for a few weeks, then YES, it did get easier/better. Now, I'm about 3-4 months into regular exercise and I seriously get grouchy if I can't get a daily workout in. If you told me i would ever say something like that, i previously would have laughed in your face!!!

and on the food tip: I go in spurts. I can't keep junk in the house, or I will eat it, period. Which is probably the main reason why I've only lost 12 lbs. vs. pals who are strict on their diet AND exercise (who have lost twice as much).

    Hi Mary!

I started at the beginning of the year and did amazing but lost my motivation and gained all but 1 pound back. :( So I'm back again and working on it.

I agree with the others. If it's too strict you won't stick with it...that's what I did the first time and now I'm trying all sorts of different items and things to see what's going to work for *me*. Keep the faith, and if you need a partner in crime, feel free to add me!

It gets easier. Keep at it long enough, and your body starts getting this sense of normality that's remarkably peaceful.... It's scary really. Wicked cool, too. But once you hit that stage, don't randomly think that crap food is okay--your body will reject it and punish you until you treat it well again, haha.

You can do this. WE have done this. ^-^

Hi Mary! I think we all go through the shock of calorie awareness the first two weeks. It seems a little scary, but it definitely gets easier. You are also starting during the hardest times in my opinion, dang all the seasonal goodies. Hang in there, and stick with it. If you have a bad day, let it go, just don't let it turn into a bad few days, weeks, month, etc... We all have them, but the important thing is that we keep hanging on. You are woth every struggle, every fight, every success -large or small that you accomplish.

I read somewhere that someone says that although chocolate is good, it's not nearly as good as fitting into an old pair of jeans.

Chin up, you are not alone, you can do this!!!

Friend me if you'd like- I'm on here daily.

It does get easier. But it takes some time to form a habit (in this case, a good one). I found the best way to get in the habit of eating in a healthy manner, was to eat the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. Lots of fruits and veggies are on my lunch plate -- with so much bulk, I'm seldom hungry. The reason for the same things day after day -- I'm not really a morning person and kept forgetting what to take to work for my lunch.

And remember, DON'T SKIP your breakfast! It wakes up your metabolism for the day.

At first, I had to make grocery lists to ensure that I remembered all the fruits and veggies that I was eating for lunch every day... now it's automatic. And the produce-guy at my grocery store tells me when my favorites are in stock, or what they're out of, so I don't get frustrated.

Be sure to give yourself a small, measured treat every day or so. If you have a planned indulgence, you'll find that you won't go off track. My indulgence is Godiva. I get 100 calories of Godiva milk chocolate pearls every day. I suck on them, instead of chewing them up, and can make my chocolate pearls last around 20-30 minutes.

And the most important thing that you need to do.... LOG YOUR FOOD EVERY DAY!!! Get a little neurotic about it. Make it a habit. Even if you have a 'bad' food day, LOG IT. Remember, it's just one bad meal or day. Get right back on track the next morning at breakfast. One high calorie meal will NOT kill you, nor will it ruin all your progress.
