I have had saline implants since 2003. Today I noticed that my left breast seems smaller than my right. Could my implant be leaking or am I freaking out over nothing?

Get it checked out, better to be safe than sorry!
  • Definitely get this checked out. May be nothing, but better to put your mind at rest x
  • Yowsa. Def get it checked out! Here's a little blurb from the 'net:

"When a saline breast implant breaks
When saline breast implants break, the contents usually leak very quickly. When this happens, the implant ‘deflates,’ much like a balloon that has lost the air inside. A woman can see that her saline implant has broken because her breast has changed in size and/or shape in a short period of time. It’s less common for saline to leak slowly, although it can happen. When the saline leaks out of its envelope, the body absorbs it. It’s usually harmless, unless there is fungus or bacteria inside the implant. Leakage of non-sterile saline from the implant could lead to a potentially serious infection.

How do I know if my saline breast implant has broken?
Saline implant ruptures are usually obvious. You should be able to see the difference in the size and/or shape of your breast. An MRI or other imaging technique is not usually required."

I hope everything checks out okay!!!!
  • My implant is definitely leaking. :( My left breast has continued to get smaller and is now about half the size of my right breast. I will call my PS tomorrow.
  • I called to my PS and talked with a nurse and I will be going in on my consultation on tuesday next week.
  • I had my consultation yesterday and I will be having my revision surgery on thursday next week. I decided to replace with saline implants and decided to stay with the same type, size and placement(Mentor smooth round moderate profile 375CC under the muscle).

Could it be a temperature/pressure thing perhaps? For example if one breast is very hot and the other is very cold. The hot one may have expanded from the heat and the cold one contracted from the cold.

please check it out. if the saline did leak, it probably wouldn't cause a major health problem (since you are talking saline), but def an aesthetics issue. good luck!
