Too much dairy can stop up the works, sad to say, at least in my case. But one thing that certainly gets things going again is a big glass of %100 Concord Grape Juice. Just don't drink it on days when you're nowhere near a bathroom, because it can work a bit too well!

For vitamins I take krill oil because I never eat fish and I also take a gummy vitamin, some cheap one that's probably for kids but has an adult dosage of two. Cheap, comes in a big bottle, seems to be working for general purpose needs.

You never realize how you take going poop for granted until you can't LOL!! I have ulcerative colitis and can very from going 20-30 times a day to not going for weeks literally. I highly recommend probiotics along with your fiber and lots of water. I swear by them. I haven't tried it yet, but celestial seasonings has a new tea for occasional constipation as well. I would really try to not get in the habit of taking any stool softners, my gi doc told me your intestines can become dependent on them pretty quick if used often. Then your intestines get lazy and it's very hard to break the cycle of needing them daily. A salad once a day also helps me personally.
  • When I was on bed rest during my last pregnancy I had BM issues and started eating three-four prunes a day and that really helped keep me regular, better than any stool softener. I think they taste okay too.

I like a liquid multivitamin called "Vitaplen" it's the only one listed in physicians desk references. It's very good but a little pricey.

If you want a cheap multivitamin get some bee pollen in bulk from your health food store (or you can probably buy it as a supplement f or slightly more $) and take some of that every day. It's not so pricey and if you were stranded on an deserted island you could survive on only bee pollen, it's that nutritious.

    Good luck!

Because I eat a primarily high protein, low carb diet, I struggle with this. The first and most important things to keep you regular is walking/exercise (great for whatever ails you) and water, water, water!!! Both of which I don't get enough of. And nothing is better than fiber in it's whole form fruits/vegetables.

There is a tea called "Smooth Move" which is wonderful, which has a natural laxative. You could probably find it at a health food or whole foods market. That usually gets things going by the next day. I have also used a cap full of Miralax in my coffee every now and then, which really works great. It's tasteless. Another thing I take when absolutely necessary is peri-colace. The doctor didn't want me using peri-colace all the time, though.

My multi-vitamin that I take daily is "Nutri-100" without iron from "Vitamin Shoppe". You can get it with iron, if you wish.

I hope some of this was helpful.

The only time I've ever had problems with BM is if I was:

    *Not drinking enough water
    *Too much fried food
    *Too many supplement tablets

(Which is why these days I tend to take most vitamins in liquid or chewable or sublingual form.

I have the same issue of getting backed up since reducing calories. I take Rainbow Light Everyday fiber supplement, it is easy on the system and no gas or bloat with it plus it has cleansing properties. Amazon had the best price on it. And if I eat a couple clementines during the day that does the trick-A nurse told me years ago when I was in the maternity ward that a whole orange or tangerine will move me along and I have never forgotten it. Plus prunes are too sweet and can be gassy for me anyway. Good luck!

I have a very bad digestive system. After a c-section it missed up my system cause the scare tissue healed on my intestines wrong. I have had family members die from becoming reliant on laxatives so I stay away from them. I eat prunes and coffee, without it I can go a month with out going and I am in so much pain. Ever body is different so check with your doctor cause you might be allergic to wheat or something and need to go gluten free.
  • I just want to recommend one thing that nobody else has mentioned, dried pitted dates! I hate the taste of prunes and too much fiber gives me horrible gas. Dates taste like waxy sugar and I find I poop very regularly if I eat just one per day.
