I'm not sure I completely understand your problem.
If you used 1/4 cup of something, then you would enter ".25" and choose "1 cup".
To determine how many servings... well usually when I cook I end up eating 1/3 of what I cooked. (The rest is for my husband, or it's leftover.) So I say it's 3 servings.0 -
hmmm that makes sense! im a bit math dense I hated it all throughout school what Im saying is I guess I dont really know how to type it out like u just did as in 1/4 --> .25
like just now at dinner there was this issue my hubby had to solve:
shredded cheese a serving is 1/3 cup at 110 cals so I go to put that in the MFP app and itll only have presets for 1.3 or a whole cup or I guess the whole bag LOL so he had to figure it out with a conversion app and I had to put in the box some super long number i cant remember and going back to the entry it doesnt show now lol!0 -
I want to enter this recipe to know the calories but idk how many servings??? -_-
-4 BONELESS CHICKEN BREASTS, DICED
-3 TABLESPOONS OF FLOUR
-1 PINT HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
-1 CUP OF CHICKEN BROTH
-1/2 ONION, DICED
-SALT & PEPPER

1/4 = .25
1/2 = .33
2/3 = .67
3/4 = .75
If you are trying to get 1/4 just get a calculator and do 1 divided by 4.
For your issue with the shredded cheese, you had 1/3 cup, so you would put in .33 and choose the preset "cup". You don't ever need to put in a long number, did you have something like .3333333333333? You just need to put in the first two digits after the decimal. .330 -
I don't know how many servings that recipe is for you. The question is how much of it did you eat? If you ate 1/2 of it then it's 2 servings. If you ate 1/4 of it then it's 4 servings.0

1/8 = 0.125 I actually have a 1/8 measuring cup in my possession... and I crack up laughing all the time that it came with my measuring cup set!0 -

Traditionally one breast of chicken is one serving.... BUT - did you weigh the chicken?
You need to weigh the onion because you didnt mention the size of the onion, diced.
The food database does have a "Calorie King.com Chicken, boneless, skinless" listing and its in there "by the ounce"... Weigh out your chicken... if its 20 oz total, just select that particular entry and enter 20 in the quantity field.
I double-checked that entry and it is spot-on accurate...0 -
thanks you two )0

LOL I forget what the outcome was for hubby! oh but I didnt have 1/3 cup like the serving says I only did 1 TBS ;-) (I used my old app to grab the calories, thats the nice thing about the Lose It! app and I had so much of it stored already... however MFP has the built in water logger and the bigger better food database! Oh im gonna need to use them in conjuction LOL! like enter into LI and then just grab the calories and punch em into MFP!0

when i make food... i tend to do it by the ounce. so if i have say chicken.. the 4 pieces together weighs 12 oz.. serving size for me is 12.
so just in case i choose not to eat the whole thing... i can just weigh what i take.
Things like pasta and so on... i tend to cook the whole thing and then weigh out the finished product (liiil obsessive, but it works for me) and again, separate by ounces so i know exactly how much i'm eating.0 -

you pick how big you want the servings to be......if you plan on serving 4 people put 4 if you want to make it to feed 8 put 8. I usually base everything on an 8 oz measuring cup and I actually measure out the finished product cup by cup into a container and then edit the recipe to the correct servings amount if I was wrong.
It's really very simple once you get doing it more often.0 -
thanks lady! sounds awesome! and yeah I think since it makes a lot I should do 6? if I split it between 4 oh my thats gonna leave lots over and this is the one dish I cave and eat more of hehehe so usually on "cheat night" LOL! mmmmm good!0

Just remember though, that one 'cup' may be a constant measure. The item you put IN to that one-cup measurement doesnt necessarily make it 8 ounces...0
