The Epic Rant Thread

Have you been wronged in some way? Do you need to get something off your chest? Post it here and rant your little heart out!

Here is my rant:

I belong to DeviantArt. On DA users can start their own groups that can accept certain types of art or all art (example: groups that accept only anime, Johnny Depp fanart, or anything and everything that you wish to submit). Here is what happens when a group moderator lets her tiny sliver of power go straight to her pretty little head.

One night I'm the computer and notice that I have a message from the Big Cheese of a group I belong to concerning my drawing of "Rossi" (the Joe Mantegna character from "Criminal Minds"). I clicked on the message and was treated to a novel-length rant about:

* how that was the worst drawing I had ever submitted to the group
* how much my art work in general sucks
* how much my shading sucks
* how she'd rather have little kids submit stick figures than have me submit another one of my horrible pieces of crap
* she wasn't going to accept any more of my art until I got my act together and worked on improving my drawings
* Oh, and since she apparently was the greatest thing to happen to the art world since Grug and Rog slapped some pigment on cave walls, she'd take a few minutes of her precious time to teach me how to draw

Apparently I was supposed to have divined out of thin air that my work wasn't up to her solid-gold standards as that was the first time I had ever heard a single word from her. My work had been declined from that group before, but she never told me why and I didn't think much of it. Not once did she give my any kind of constructive criticism whatsoever on any piece of art I had submitted. She never told me what she thought was wrong with "Rossi" or what I could do to fix it. Noooo....she had to tear me to shreds and I was supposed to grovel at her feet and beg Her Royal Art Queen for forgiveness. To read her ridiculous rant you would have thought that my drawing of "Rossi" was a crime on par with the Lindbergh kidnapping.

Needless to say I was just a tad bit unamused and unimpressed, left that group, and blocked her. Guess what? The world hasn't stopped spinning.

    She's an idiot. You're very talented. I can't draw a halfway decent stick figure.

    I think she must be jealous. Your drawing is great. Montegna is totally recognizable. Good work!

    I would have sent back a massive rant right back about how she may think her >>>> don't stink..but guess what, not only does that stink but so does her eye for art. Personally i think she may have been jealous, because that is a very nice piece of work and guess what? Me and my hubby worked for a time with a game company years ago and we chose art for the books and I would so have chosen YOU to do some of the book work.

    I looked at your other work and you are awesome..I am not joking. I LOVE the picture of Will Turner and Jack Sparrow.....had I come across your gallery when we were hiring artists you would have found an email in your box asking if you would have liked to do a few pics for the game..I like your stuff better than the artist we hired to do the cover. I am dead serious.

    Jealousy had nothing to do with it (I looked at her page and her art was very good). No, she just ridiculously overestimated the importance of herself and her group.

    In a huge community like DA there's always going to be that one *kitten* who thinks she owns the place.

    I did send her an epic rant right back telling her where she could stick her precious group, her know-it-all attitude, and her so-called "advice".

    Youre amazing and shes pea green with envy that you are so awesome. Like any artist, Im sure there is room for improvement, but you have a real gift for drawing. And really portraits are a beast! I know! Ive done them myself and they never looked that good. More like cartoon versions of them rather than a true likeness. :ohwell:

    That kind of attitude is why I left DA to be honest. I love your drawing though, it is absolutely amazing.
