Can someone please recommend me cheap and reliable heart monitor? I have been looking for one, but am not sure which one to pick. I just want to be able to approximately calculate how much calories I have burned during different exercises.

Thanks

  • I would like to know, too. I looked at Wal-Mart's website yesterday, and they can get mighty expensive.

Cheap=not accurate. Also HRM are never 100% accurate. To get as close to accurate, have one that takes into account your height, weight, gender, VO2max and as many other variables as possible. I recommend some of the polar ones that incorporate fit tests and also that use a chest strap.

You need to keep the biometrics regularly updated too in order to provide you with as close to reliable / accurate info as possible.

I just got the polar rs300x. Decent, not too pricey and lots of features.

I wouldn't buy one that costs less than £40 in all honesty.

I also would love recommendations. I have been bouncing btw a Polar FT4 and 7, trying to figure out the difference btw the two. I know to look for one that uses a chest strap to make it more accurate. Would love to see other people's recommendations!

I have spent a loooong time reading reviews for these things. The polar ft4 and ft7 seem to get the best reviews. The women's version of the ft4 is 66 on amazon.

What are the differences between FT4 and 7? Is 7 more accurate?

There is very minimal difference between the FT4 and FT7.

Only differences are color, FT7 holds more workouts, FT7 allows you to upload to the polar website.

I have an FT7 and I enjoy it a lot... so much that I just bought an FT60. Excited to see what the fitness test can do for calorie accuracy.

In my opinion, if you're going to spend money on a heart rate monitor, you may as well spend a little more for a GOOD one. If you go onto Amazon.com, you can find a bunch of HRM's there. Personally, I'm leaning towards the Polar ft4 or ft7, I hear those are really good, but around $80 - $100. Normally, I'd hate to spend that much money on something so small, but it might be a good investment in the long run. :)

My Timex unisex one, which I just got for less that $45 in a less popular color on Amazon, was well-reviewed on Amazon and seems to be working great for me. Most of my buddies on here have Polars, but Timex is certainly a good brand and could be a good option for you.
