Ladies - we're doomed

H&M Puts Real Model Heads On Fake Bodies

The bodies of most of the models H&M features on its website are computer-generated and "completely virtual," the company has admitted. H&M designs a body that can better display clothes made for humans than humans can, then "dresses" it by drawing on its clothes, and digitally pastes on the heads of real women in post-production. For now — in the future, even models' faces won't be considered perfect enough for online fast fashion, and we'll buy all of our clothing from cyborgs. (This news sort of explains this.) But man, isn't looking at the four identical bodies with different heads so uncanny? Duly noted that H&M made one of the fake bodies black. You can't say that the fictional, Photoshopped, mismatched-head future of catalog modeling isn't racially diverse.

That's pretty disgusting but at least they admit to it.

It's just another reason to not compare ourselves to what's in magazines and such. These aren't real people! Just work on getting the body you have to best it can be, not some unattainable goal! I know I will never look like a model, but I'll be in great shape!

Their photoshopping makes them look a little more moose-knuckly than I would prefer. They have not sold me on those bikinis!
  • I guess it's the same as using mannequins, they've just painted them.

Don't be discouraged... 10 - 30 pounds over on a woman is pretty damn sexy.

Some of them look like they're packing the ****...

Plus, photoshopping is rampant and ridiculous. EVERY SINGLE MAGAZINE/AD/WHATEVER photoshops. Even Victorias Secret and their photo editors aren't even that good but women still want to look like them...

I'm curvy and sexy (and I know it).

I'll take blatantly computer generated mannequins over air brushed Victoria's Secret models any day. At least this company is admitting to a FAKE standard.

I don't care. They have awesome clothes. I don't look at the ads. Just stick myself to the window every time I walk by and drool at the clothes.

    Ok ok... I'm a liar...

I go in every time...I don't walk by...

    Seriously, who cares?

Why are we doomed? Do you, actually base your goals on pics from a fashion website? I don't. Does anybody actually think what you buy is going to fit you exactly the same way as pictured? I don't. How is it any different than Victoria's Secret? What's worse? Knowing Victoria's Secret models are "real" and you/we don't look like that or that these mannequins are fake and you/we don't look like that?

BTW- I don't mean "you" OP exactly, I mean "you" in a general sense.

EDITED TO ADD: the last thing I consider myself is doomed. I'll take my muscles and ability over any of those "real" or fake examples any day. I also think most of my MFP friends would agree.

So disturbing! They look so real and then you notice that it is a different head on exactly the same body!! It is just like using a manikin really but they need to be clear about it so young girls dont get the wrong idea!!
  • this sort of stuff just eats away at young girls who don't realize these women are fake! i have to constantly tell my sister that she's not fat at her young age of 7 (she's thin!)

as for me. i now look at a healthy standard of looks than thinness thanks to this site and the inspiration i see on here!

i'm going to rock a bikini someday whether or not i look like these fake women :drinker:

The models are real but their pictures aren't. In fact, in most of the VS stores there's a large print of Heidi Klum and you can see where they tried to airbrush her cellulite off and failed. Now, don't get me wrong, I'd kill to look like Heidi Klum cellulite and all, but they aren't real photos. Their boobs are airbrushed, their hair, their legs are elongated, etc. etc.

Bad news for women trying to make it in the modeling industry, but it doesn't affect me in any way. Model good looks was always out of my reach thanks to genetics, it's no more or less out of my reach now that I'm not the cyborg creation of a demented marketing serf!

so when people say "You have such a pretty face", means I can go model for them because they dont care what my body looks like. I think I would be more bummed if the runners mags were that overly fake too..( I know they do somethings to those pics too)

Yes. Honestly, it looks a lot better than the headless pure white mannequins on bluefly.

Quite honestly, I prefer my body to those anyway. I would prefer it with less fat... lol... but even still. But I am very comfortable in my own skin. I wish that on every woman in the world.

You are doomed if you compare yourself to other people anyway - I can't think of a better way to make yourself miserable! This journey is about me becoming a lighter, healthier version of me and I don't really care how I add up to other people!

Only that Dove actually wants non-model people for their campaigns.

I don't know, I think Dove is right up there with the rest too, though they may try to appear not to be. They succeeded in making me feel self conscious about my dry armpits, and I didn't even know it was a problem!

Meh...I wouldn't be surprised if many of the male models for A&F, American Eagle, etc are photoshopped as well. I don't ever compare myself to anything in print these days nor deem them "normal" or "beautiful"...not a lot of it is real anymore.

    Which is a real shame.

Wow. I like this attitude. I really liked this part-- "I am very comfortable in my own skin." I couldn't agree more.
However, I too am losing weight for a purely selfish reason---me! I simply want to look better and be healthier.

I think it's crap that these companies don't think they can sell their products dispalyed on anything other than a fake body. My boys see these adds: what does it do to their expectations/views of what a woman looks like vs. how they are portrayed in the market place. I love the way my wife looks, imperfections especially. She earned her body, both good and "bad". And none of it is bad in my book. She is the hottest woman i know. I'll take curves and squeezable areas over those "boyish" model bodies anyday!
