Hi..
it's the new year and it's time for a change. I NEED to lose weight for my mental, physical and emotional health.
I am classed as moribidly obese and I'm scared about exercising. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an exercise DVD to start me off on my weight loss journey. I'm already tracking my food, now need to do the exercise thing too!
I am too embarrassed to exercise in public, so thought exercising at home to a DVD would be the best place to start and build my confidence up.
Please can anyone help. I am DEFINITELY not up to Jillian's 30 day shred!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys :-)

thanks for your reply but am in the UK so can't use the website link you posted. thanks anyway.
think Jillian Micheals is just too hard core for me at the moment.
The walking one seems interesting.
thanks again0 -
Im sure you can do the 30 day shred, as a beginner just do what parts you can, so the warm up & the cool down you can defiantly do.
On the 30 day shred they have a lady that does the modified versions of the exercises. Even if you can only do the move once then thats great! Then the next time you try the dvd you can attempt to do 2 moves.
On I think level 3 there is a move that I just cant do as it hurts my arms so much! so I just do some jumping jacks instead.
If you have the wii fit, use that! Last xmas I used that for 3months straight that helped me with my initial weight loss!
Good Luck.,0 -
I do not have a Wii but I would love one. May be I'll look on ebay and see if I can pick one up at a bargain price.

I know that this is going to sound very mean. but stop with the excuses.
if you want low intensity go for a walk. if you feel 'watched' do it at night or very early morning (when its dark out)
if you want to do a dvd then go and buy the cheapest one and keep up as best as you can. (its not like anyone is watching you anyway) eventually you will be able to keep up with dvd. but its not going to happen over night.0 -

lol i said that it was going to be mean....
i find walking very boring to, but when i first started that is all that i could handle as i had SUCH SORE KNEES/ ANKLES.
(p.s good music really helps)
and i would walk at night, because that way people could not 'see' me waddling around.
My knee is a little better now as i have lost a few pounds (but my ankles are still killer) so i can do a bit more intense work outs.
(but they are still very light workouts to most other people)
No one turned out pro over night.0 -
lol ... I know you said it was mean!!!
I can't walk atm cos I've an inflamed knee (I'm a bit worried it's caused by the weight - need to ask doc). The GP put me on anti inflammatories for a week and told me to rest it. This is really frustrating because I want to start exercising NOW!!!!!
To be honest. I'd just love to get into a swimming pool and feel the weight off my joints. Unforrunately I have some burns which are not fully healed yet, but in a couple of weeks time I should be able to go to the pool. I thought I might try aqua aerobics?
Walking is a love/hate relationship for me. I enjoy it when I get going but at the moment (I've put 5 stone on since beginning of August) I dont' get too far because my back is in agony. I've seen the doc three times about it and the pain medication isn't helping. Basically it's down to weight gain because before I put the 5 stone on I didn't have a bad back at all.
I used to love exercise. Played tennis, netball, (even had a go at womens' rugby at Uni), swam and skiied/snowboarded. Somehow, somewhere along the way it all went a bit wrong.
I like your suggestion of going out at night or early morning to walk - thanks.
I think I have a Davina McCall DVD which I think I might try - like you say. I've just got to go for it. Just need this bloody knee to get better first.
Thanks for movitvating me through meanness!!!! lol

Sometimes tough love is needed.
but i have a question for you? if you think that walking is going to strain your knee, what do you think that and exercise dvd is going to do to it?
(and i say this cuz i dont want you to get hurt and stop)
you can also try wrapping your knee in a tensor bandage while working out.
stretch your legs very good at the end of a workout (i have some good ones if you want)
A cold press for 15 and a warm for 15 after you have cooled down from a work out
a warm bath with Epson salts at the end of the day.
and a little but of will power and Advil go a long way!

wasn't thinking of doing the DVD straight away - wait til knee improves
I have a knee strap and some anti inflamm gel too
thanks for all your help btw. i really appreciate it!
