What type of oil do you use?

We have recently switched to using only olive oil and extra virgin olive oil. I was just wondering what everyone else uses? I have heard that canola is also healthy.

I use extra virgin olive oil, or grapeseed oil depending on the temperature that'll be used for cooking. Olive oil has a really low smoke point, and if you pass it you're losing most of the health benefits - so for hot stuff its usually better to use grapeseed oil.0

Coconut oil - SO healthy, great for cooking, and delicious!! Unrefined adds a slight coconut flavor (incredible with scrambled eggs, or roasted veggies), or you can get refined, which has no flavor.0

bertoli - extra virgin olive oil0

agree completely and it has a long shelf life!0 -
Nut oils are also very good for you, assuming you don't have an allergy. I cook with peanut oil, as well as sesame oil...both work well for chicken! And use coconut oil for baking!0

I use extra virgin olive oil for cooking and, when I have the money, Flaxseed oil in smoothies/salads0

extra virgin for bout a year now0

extra virgin olive oil0

I tend to use extra virgin olive oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, or sunflower/peanut oil depending on the use0

Olive oil for cooking, extra virgin is actually a finishing oil, and isn't meant to be cooked, since the extra virgin oil will lose a lot of it's flavor when cooked. Plus it's more expensive, and there's no difference nutritionally. So, regular olive oil for cooking, extra virgin for salads or pasta topping.
I also cook with safflower oil a lot, very healthy oil, and cheaper than olive oil, plus it has a much higher smoke point. Really depends on what I'm making.0 -
I use olive, coconut and almond oils0

I use non stick pans when ever I can. I use extra virgin olive oil, or a cooking spray for my pans.0

Mostly Olive oil, but also canola oil. I used to use peanut oil until I found out that a friend of ours who we only see every few years is allergic to all nut products - even a small drop will kill him. I stopped using all nut oils when I cook in case I forget to ask about allergies when I meet someone new. Did you know that a lot of people with nut allergies can't eat pears either????0

I use rice bran oil, it's apparently super healthy.0

I love coconut and extra virgin olive oil.... I also love sesame oil as an accent flavor... not to cook with0

The canola items are not healthy foods; however, canola is better than veggie oil. The reason that canola oil is healthier than vegetable oil is that it is low in saturated fat and high in the heart-healthier polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids, an essential nutrient for your diet. Two teaspoons of canola oil contain only 0.6 g of saturated fat, while 7.8 g are found in the same amount of vegetable oil. Diets high in saturated fat put a person at risk for serious health conditions such as heart disease and high cholesterol.

I use pure olive oil and coconut oil. It depends on what I want it to do.0

Valvoline Full Synthetic 5-30W
oh wait... you mean for cooking.
Mostly extra virgin olive oil.0 -
I mostly use extra virgin olive oil, but also canola, sunflower, peanut, or rice bran oil for some things.0

It depends. Different oils can sustain more heat than others. Olive oil being on the lower end of that scale.0
-
olive or veggie0

I mostly use EVOO or unsalted butter depending on what the recipe calls for. Used to use margarine to help with non-stick but I now only use Pam for that.0

Canola is very unhealthy. It's also not real. There's no such think as a "canola" to make oil from. I use primarily EVOO or coconut oil.0

Depending on what I'm cooking, butter- that's right butter. Unsalted sweet cream butter. Olive oil. Coconut oil. I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First cold pressed) for dressings.0

KY warming and massage oil.....oh wait, not what you were talking about?0

I too have begin using extra virgin coconut oil (although, I don't cook it like ^the above poster does). I also use it externally on my skin and hair. Other than that, I try to consume almonds, avocado, flax seeds, olive oil, etc.0 -

hahaha I like you.
Coconut oil would probably work well in the bedroom too.
And it would smell and taste amazing ;P0 -

Actually Canola is a grain and it is grown extensively around here. In some countries they call in "rapeseed". When you see a field of canola growing and almost ready to harvest it is a beautiful bright sunshine yellow.:laugh:0
