Former Marine, Now out of Shape!

Hey everyone! Seems like not too long ago I was running 7-8 miles 3 times a week and able to do 20 mile hikes with an 80lb pack.......Today, there is no way that is happening; BUT, I am going to change that!
Yesterday was my start date to get myself back into shape! I am currently 5'11" and 262 lbs. I have set a goal to run my first 5k on May 20th, and to eventually get myself back into my Dress Blues uniform, and down to around 180lbs.
Hope to meet some friends here to help motivate each other along the way!

Good for you! I'm not a Marine. I am happily married and a mother of four girls. Once upon a time I trained extremely hard with a body builder. I lost 60 pounds and could almost outlift any guy in the gym. I did an hour of cardio every morning and then trained at the gym for 1 1/2 everyday for lunch. Received a promotion at work and have not been back to the gym, or done any cardio since. Needless to say, I put 60+ pounds back on!!!! I hate it and am very disappointed at myself. A friend at work had me login to myfinesspal. It helps to have support. So, let's get in shape and keep in touch. Deep down I want to be as fit as a MARINE!!!! You go!0

Good luck on your journey & friend request sent!0

I am in the same boat as you. I lost 30 pounds when I was deployed to Iraq in '03. Now I've put those 30 pounds, plus an additional 70 pounds. I hadn't ran since shortly after I got out of the Corps and now I can run 13 minutes on a treadmill which is good for so far. I am hoping to get myself back up to being able to run those long distances like I used to. Good luck on your journey Marine!0

Story of my life!!!
I was in the Army and in my best shape ever. We rucked everywhere... 70 lb packs and all. When I got out in 2008 everything went to hell. I am finally getting back to my pre-basic shape. Still can't run 4 miles straight, like I used to. But hell, I am getting there - little by little.
You can do it! You still have that Marine inside of you.
Feel free to add me!0 -
Awesome !!!
Welcome - will be sending you a friend request!0 -
WOW! Thank you all for your support and responses! Glad to see I am not the only person that used to be in shape that has slipped up and is now trying to get it back! Helps to know others are in the same boat and are so supportive of my efforts!
As I said, yesterday was very difficult! I didnt realize that I would be starting from rock bottom again until I tried to run! Argh!
Thank you also for all the friend requests! I will be replying back to them all ASAP!0 -
I COMPLETELY feel you on this! I was in the Army and could do anything I was told - I'm now in the worst shape of my LIFE! Best of luck to you and everyone else on this site! We CAN do it!0

We can and WILL do it! I know we all still have that drive and determination deep down inside!0

I'm about the same height 5'10" and have the game goal. I originally started about 300 lbs and am now down to 215. Getting started again is the hard part. Get into a rhythm and get that body moving.0

I am also a veteran. But I miss my military body sooooo much. Since I got out and had a baby weights just piling on. I completely understand ur self disappointment. WE just gotta get over being upset and do something. I gotcha back. You can do it. If u did it before it should be easy. Right? Hahaha!0

My husband has been where you are. He retired about 7 years ago after 20+ years, 2 of them spent as a Drill Instructor. He started running again about 6 months ago and is back in USMC shape. His goal was to be able to pass the PFT again and he is there.
Good Luck. Semper Fi0
