Anyone have any quick, simple and healthy breakfasts. I get tired of oatmeal and don't really like eggs all that much and I don't have a lot of time in the a.m. to make breakfast. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks--Dorothy

Have a great day!!

Can you do a protein shake? Normally I would suggest taking the veggies from dinner from the night before, scramble it with a couple eggs, and throw it in a wrap. You definitely want a good protein source in the morning it will help you feel full longer. Next time you're back home let me know, we can get together and trade recipes. Have good lunch and dinner stuff, breakfast not so much. Lol.

I like to make up cottage cheese pancakes on the weekend then freeze them. That way you can quickly warm them up (or toast them) mornings you're in a rush. I like Tosca Reno's recipe. There are a ton of other protein or cottage cheese pancake recipes out there though. If anyone has a favourite please share!

I like to take a scoop of protein powder, a tbsp of PB2 and just enough water (approx. 1-2 tbsp) and mix it into a syrup/icing type spread for my pancakes...great way to get that extra protein intake!

Muesli is awesome - I've eaten it for years now.
You can either get it premade at a store, or you can make your own:

    Simple recipe:
    3 cups rolled oats
    1 cup barley/rye flakes
    1 cup wheat germ
    1 cup sunflower seeds
    1 cup pepitas (raw/unsalted)
    1 cup almonds
1 cup fruit trail mix or assorted dried fruits

You can play with it and make it how you like. To serve, take a half cup of the mix and combine it with 1 cup of milk. You can also heat it in a microwave to serve hot.
  • 1 cup corn flakes (not frosted)
    1 cup nonfat skim milk
    2 TBSP raisins
    2 TBSP chopped almonds

has right around 430 calories and great source of protein. Tastes great and will hold you till lunch. The monounsaturated fat from the almonds will encourage fat burning and weight loss, also makes you feel full.

I'm not a big fan of oatmeal either. I've been eating Kashi-go Lean crunch with almond milk. If I have fruit on hand, I throw in a handfull.

Thanks all - some good ideas. Think I will look into the protein shakes and some of the cereal suggestions. I could keep almond or soy milk in fridge at work and eat when I get in. I will also look at some of the other suggestions for the weekend and may try to make a Musseli (spelling - sorry).

I hate oatmeal, so for me it's usually string cheese and a slice of whole wheat toast.

What about a sandwich or a wrap? Leftovers from dinner heated up? Breakfast doesn't have to be 'breakfest' foods!

Try a high fiber cereal like Total or FiberOne and top it with strawberries, blueberries or bananas. Either eat with whatever milk you like or I also like to make a greek yogurt parfait out of it by layering the ingredients.

Also a whole wheat english muffin topped with almond butter and sliced bananas is really good.

SMOOTHIES! You can put whatever you want in them. I like to put protein powder (Jillan Michaels brand is what I use for this but its up to you), frozen berries or other frozen fruit, banana, and a little OJ or Almond/Rice/Soy (whatever you drink) milk.
  • I like the Earthbound Organic Apple Slices Snack Pack (just discovered them). They already come pre-sliced, so all you have to do is pop open a bag and start munchin - they're so easy you could eat them on your way to work. Pair that with some low fat yogurt or plain greek yogurt and BAM there's your breakfast.

I usually have Kashi GoLean! Crunch (I love the honey almond flax flavor!), a Dole smoothie shaker with skim milk or if I am in a real hurry, I have a whole wheat Smucker's pb & j uncrustable.

    1. Greek yogurt + fruit + granola or chopped nuts
    2. Peanut butter + banana + cinnamon + pita or english muffin or tortilla (swap the cinnamon for unsweetened cocoa powder too)
    3. baked apples + chopped nuts + english muffin
    4. cheese toast (one slice of whole grain bread, 1 oz of your favorite cheese in the oven or toaster oven till melted) + fruit
    5. smoothies
    a. banana + ginger + milk + cinnamon
    b. frozen berries + unsweetened cranberry or pomegranate juice
    c. Mango + coconut water + ginger + juice from 1/2 lime or lemon
    d. Mango lassi: mango + keffir or yogurt + juice from 1/2 lime
  • Try Cheerios or a strawberry smoothie.. Nice and very nutritional
  • I cant eat porridge it makes me retch, but I do like rice krispies , or special k and add my own fresh fruit.
Or natural yougurt with fresh fruit.
I also like turkey rashers and grilled cherry tomato for a weekend change.

Mmm...so many options! Let's see...today I made this http://mynewroots.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-year-new-breakfast.html, which is gluten free, vegan, and good for you - tons of energy! Plus if you cook up the quinoa and millet ahead of time, takes barely any time at all in the morning. The same blog has a great video on making your own nut milk too, which Is super easy and really tasty! Hashes are great - keep some grated veggies (potatoes, onions, carrots, cauliflower etc.) on hand and they can also come together pretty quickly - you can mix in an egg or turkey/chicken sausage to get some good protein too! I don't have a recipe on hand, but I know lots of people make breakfast muffins or healthy pancakes, freeze them in individual portions, and just quickly cook them up in the morning. Yogurt and fruit is always a good go to...fresh (as in, if you have a juicer make it yourself!) juice or smoothies are another great option. In general, I think the closer you can get to whole grains, fresh produce and lean proteins, and stick away from processed or pre-packaged breakfast foods the closer you'll get to having a good, healthy, energizing and satiating breakfast. Good luck!

    Make your own flavored oatmeal:
    1. chopped apples, cinnamon, chopped nuts
    2. banana, pumpkin pie spice, almond milk instead of water
    3. dried fruit, walnuts, vanilla extract

These are my 3 favorite variation. I buy plain steel cut oats. You can cook them faster if you add your liquid the night before. They'll cook in the microwave in half the time.

anything that has protein.. sometimes ill eat chicken or fish for breakfast if im not in the mood for traditional breakfast.. also a nice idea when im in the mood for sweet is a toasted bagel thin with almond butter and sugar free jam. i ususally have an egg white omelet with no cheese and oatmeal with just cinnamon.. ill switch it up to a protein shake sometimes.. breakfast is my downfall because i was never in to it. i do eat protein every morning though..its become a habit for me . some mornings i have to force myself to have something.. its essential to get your metabolism going and helps out tremendously with weight loss
  • I love turkey sandwiches with avocado and tomato and a slice of reduced cal swiss(swiss has more calcium than some of the other cheeses)

I love eggs...but since you ,won't give you those ideas..lol

cook an applegate chicken sausage with gouda and apple(already in there) for protein.

cook a turkey burger with avocado and onion....so yummy and loaded with protein for about 200 calories total!!!(no bun but add an 80 calorie Sarah Lee whole grain bun ) Still is low in calories..:)
  • I have been drinking Special K protein shakes for a while now and really like them. I usually add a banana or some other type of fruit with it in the morning. I can throw it in my purse and drink it when I am at work. It does a good job at keeping me full until lunch time.
  • You need to try the vitatop muffins. They are 90-100 calories. You can find them in the frozen section at most grocery stores. I love the chocolate ones. You can also go to their website and order them. I love them. It feels like you are cheating on your diet. http://www.vitalicious.com
