Hi amy, determination helps you keep your head in. I have gained and lost a few times in my life. This site has really helped me alot. The tools that are here have really helped. By logging what I eat it has made me see the mindless eating I had done , also easy to find calories in the database of things I eat. Adding friends here has been big too. Everyone is here for the same reason. The people here a very encouraging and it feels great to do the same for them. You CAN do this and with this site and determination to work it, you will succeed. So look around the site and don't be afraid to ask people to be a friend. And when the weight starts coming off it is amazing how energized you become.0

keep motivated by remembering your only competing against yourself dont compare yourself to other ppl and keep your focus on mini goals like two pounds in x amount of time that always helped me0

Hi Amy and welcome! I agree with mruntidy...if you think you have 100+ pounds to lose, it can be overwhelming. Break it into little bits (I did 5-10 pound increments) and when met, treat yourself with a non-food reward. This may sound extreme, but I'd also ask myself if eating ___ (you fill in the blank with a counterproductive choice...mine was carrot cake, ice cream or chocolate anything!) was worth dying for. Every once and a while the answer was yes, but mostly no.
This is not a sprint, but more of a hike to a healthier lifestyle and you have to seriously want it and put it first and foremost in pretty much every aspect of your life. The rewards are vast so it is worth the time and effort! Read everything you can here at mfp and on the net regards nutrition and find what works best with your body by honestly documenting food, exercise, etc. Support is great and this site is wonderful for that. You may find that some of your friends are not going to be supportive and you may need to distance yourself from them. Again, harsh but this is your health and what kinda friend would sabotage you being healthier? Lastly, when you stray from your chosen food plan (and yes you will..everyone does) do NOT give up. Acknowledge it, think about why and then move on. Beating yourself up will only make you wanna eat more.
If I can be of any help, let me know. You can do it!0 -
