So I went to Chili's Saturday & had a juicy steak, loaded mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli & garlic bread along with the chips & salsa. And DANG was it good. I did not starve myself earlier in the day - was basically on par for my daily budget of calories. But after the dinner I was definitely over. I did not feel guilty about it. I'd done a decent amount of exercise that morning (probably 500 cal worth) but was eating my exorcise cals. I also did some yard work that day so probably burned around 100-200 more. But really just felt justified in this once in a while splurge.

Come Monday morning I see that I've still lost one pound over the weekend. I'm pretty sure I ended up eating around 500 or 600 cals over budget (which is approximately my deficit right?). So my take on this whole thing is that this is fine to do this ONCE IN A WHILE. It actually makes it not feel at all like a diet. I totally enjoyed it and was ready to keep kicking butt on exercise & other stuff.

My point in all this is that I love the way MFP is designed to help you with a lifestyle change, not deprivation methods. And I don't really understand when someone gets on the msg boards and cries about one bad day. One bad day means almost nothing if you're more concerned about a lifestyle change and if you're keeping up with your goals most days.

So, I just kinda wanted to shove this in the face of those that believe otherwise. :drinker:

Personally I find that if I don't allow myself to splurge once in a while on something I'm craving than this doesn't work! You have to allow yourself breaks or your going to break eventually! That doesn't mean splurge on something daily, or even necessarily weekly! And try modifying the splurge! My weakness is flamming hot cheetos, so i'll have enough to satisfy me in one sit (around 15 pieces) and then give the rest away. (easy when it's a small bag) that way I'm not tempted to chomp down later, but I also won't be thinking about it for weeks.
