There's lots of talk out there about how hard it is to keep off the weight once lost. Studies showing the odds are stacked against us and blah blah.

It would be very motivating to hear from some of you MFPeeps who are maintaining your loss.

Have you kept off your weight for over 3 months?

What are your tips for successful maintenance? What have you learned?

Please share.

Thank you!!!

  • Yep, I have indeed. I reached my goal of 115 and I fluctuate from 110-117 ish now, but lways around that. MY biggest tips are to just add more lifestyle activity. When you aren't LOSING exercise can get difficult to maintain. Because the mindset is different. So just WALK more. And such.

Also, begin to learn to intuitively eat. :)

Idk if hubby and I count-- I've been a member since February and actively maintaining for the past 4 months or so. Recently I've decided to go a little lower, but there's no magic to it-- regularly keeping my calorie goals is all I've really done. Hubby doesn't use this site but if he realizes he's putting on a few pounds he goes back to more exercise (he runs, I don't) and smaller portions for awhile. I wouldn't say it's easy-- you don't get to just stop worrying about it-- but it's not hard if you've made changes that you're happy enough keeping.

He lost 60 lbs total and I've lost right around 30.

Are you logging regularly? Has that been an important part of staying on track?

I guess that's my biggest question -- how well "maintainers" do with or without continued vigilant logging.

I still log but I'm much more general about it now. Often just quick adding how much I think I ate. It keeps me aware of calories, but I don't have to stress over exact counts.

I joined mfp in Jan of 2011. It has been a year, and I have lost 51-53 pounds. I fell off the 'wagon' for a while, not logging, I mean. I managed to keep losing and have maintained the loss. I think I got 'too busy' to log and got tired of logging the same things over and over. It got so I learned to manage my calories in and out in my head. I never have gone crazy while not logging, which I think helps show that I learned a lot about what and how to eat over the last year. I am back to logging now tho. I missed it, and my mfp peeps...You are all the best!
  • dropped almost 50 over 9 months, gained 15 back in the last three while taking "time off".... thus I'm back again :)

    holidays can be such b!tch.
