Me and my bum knee...

I need some advice from any trainers out there. I have a bad knee (thinking I'm going to have to have a knee surgery soon) but I love to work out. I haven't worked out in a few weeks because my knee has been aching and I don't want to make it worse...I need someone to recommend some exercises that are low impact on my knee besides swimming...I can swim but I hate having to deal with my hair after swimming!!
I have an eliptical, a treadmill, a stationary bike, a stepper and plenty of workout videos...I THINK the eliptical will be low impact but I'm not 100% sure...Suggestions?? :flowerforyou:

Give pilates it's low impact but still give you a good workout and will help in strengthening you core and leg muscles.0

I have foot and knee pain. My feet are flat and I had a pretty bad sprained knee about a year ago.
Stationary bike has been the best for me. I have a elliptical but there are days when even that hurts... especially with flat feet.
In the meantime, have you seen a doctor about your knee? Do you know what's wrong with it?
Good luck! I hope you get better soon.0 -
I had knee surgery1.5 years ago and found this difficult as well.! pilates is good
stationary bike is great for the knee
its the first thing they put you on when you start physio pre and post surgery!
i went tio a physiotherapist before surgery and she guided me to do exercises that were appropriate to my knee injury (torn acl)
squats were great to stregthen
it is really important to keep your leg muscles strong pre surgery! helps with recovery!0 -
I had massive knee surgery so this is a topic I know well! (I had chronically dislocating kneecaps, for 6 months my right one dislocated almost daily, they did 4 procedures on it to correct the problem which worked but put me in 3.5 years of recovery). The elliptical is a good option if you keep it on low resistance. You might also want to try just walking though. Walking is my primary source of exercise and isn't too hard on my knees. Invest in good sneakers that are stiff+ have a lot of support, you may want to ask your doctor to prescribe a good brace for support as well. Try doing a few leg lifts each day as well to strengthen the muscles that support your knee (lay on your back, bend one leg 45* and raise+ lower the other leg-- there's also ones you can do laying on each side and on your stomach which all help, they're basics in physical therapy for knees). Hope these help, if you need any other suggests send me a message!0
